AWE Catback (no Downpipes and stock cats)
Roc-Euro Intake
GIAC Stage 2
all installed. I’m still on the stock clutch car is at 2k miles. I really don’t want to launch it since there isn’t a great clutches on the market that interest me yet (JHM c’mon!).
I want to see what i can get out of the car, but would rather not go crazy on the launch. What would be my best technique?
It’s hard to say. I found the b8 clutch a little scary. My experience with it has been a few no problems launches on an s4 and a slippy launch on an s5. I also watched a guy grenade his clutch at the strip.
Basically launching from the 3000s (figure out where) in a swift drop should be best. Slipping might get you in trouble. Whatd you do with the old stocker? What do you think of b8.5 vs b8? Same hardware?
Pwrsonally I wouldn’t bother going right now. Too hot. Just wait for fall. Launching hard and potentially hurting the clutch in July isn’t going to set any records so the risk reward isn’t worth for me.
Honestly I never launched on the last stock clutch. With the FX400 I had no issues coming out at 3500 all day long but I’m afraid to even attempt it now. Was thinking of just rolling out and seeing what I can trap.
Only reason I’m running this weekend is because it’s Waterfest.
I love the B8.5 so far. It’s a huge upgrade over the B8 IMO.
Steering is better, interior is nicer and I’m loving the blue.
In stock form it was def faster than my old B8 stock, not by much but the new gearing and I guess some other small changes make this car faster in stock mode.
Now for the mods, I’m still on stock downpipes, stock cats, no CPS… To be
My Stage 2 file is a BETA file, and it’s close to production but still doesn’t feel 100% as strong as my last car. It’s fast but only makes 16psi compared to my last car at 18psi. The car still pulled a 12.0 60-130 and it was 84 degrees out with a +2100 DA.
I’m putting the non-resonated downpipes, my own supercharger exchanger system on the car soon.
I’m also gonna heat wrap my intake. Also working on making some intake spacers
I asked Garrett why we weren’t making as much boost as the B8’s, and he mentioned that even at 16 PSi of boost our 13’s are not bleeding anything away (closed shut). Our engines are a little different, but not slower.
They also pulled my TCU file, still waiting to hear back from that…
Pete, Sorry just don’t have the experience with the S4 manual to give an educated answer… Given there are no replacements that you like I would tend to be more cautious and save it for the fall since you won’t be setting records in the summer heat… I would just launch at 2500-3500rpm if it was me and make some clean passes… It’s a shame Audi put such a weak clutch in such a great car… I have been impressed with the TTRS clutch to this point but will see how that is once I am stage II in the next few weeks…
Here is what I think you should do… Get a crew together and distract Arin and the other APR team members and steal his car for a few passes ;D All kidding aside have fun at Waterfest… Take some pics and post them up if you could!
No problem. What I’m really waiting for is that JHM setup and it’ll be at the strip every weekend
What I really want to know is am I better off dumping the clutch at 3k or slipping it off the line? I’m gonna pump up the tire pressure to 48psi so I don’t bog.
Tell Arin to throw me the keys and I can get some passes in!
I answered that above in my first reply. Dump, don’t slip.
‘Dump’ sounds aggressive and crazy, but it’s really not if you’re at a reasonable RPM like something within a stones throw of 3000. If you do it from 6000 sure, you may killl it.
This is a pretty cool video. Not sure it’s totally applicable here, but you can see he is advocating the same thing we all advocate. One swift motion to get off the clutch. Try various RPMs starting around 3000. etc.
Launching 101 starts at around 3 minutes. The Viper V10 makes loads of torque, kinda like the B8 w. 1320, so it can launch off a very low RPM point. While it only has 2 tires of traction to overcome vs. our 4, the tires are 35% wider than ours!
