I really dont know the deal on the valve covers. This same thing happened to the RS4 guys with there one side valve cover. They changed something and forced guys to get a new valve cover. Nobody seems to have found out exactly what the new valve cover has different. Some say it helped others say they dont think so. I think pull your valve cover off and inspect the bottom of it to see how it looks.
As for the gasket. It will still work. you might need to trim off a small piece. Remember while the valve cover might be different the actual cylinder head that your bolting it to is exactly the same. So it has to have the same demensions
