Yeah, it was a joke…I was typing it in a meeting and didn’t have time to put a :-)…you know that makes all the difference…! No worries.
Intake wise, I’m running a setup similar to the Strat but made of aluminum.

Would I beinefficientit from fabricating an ABS plastic cover for the airbox area or would it be more worthwhile to just put some weather stripping on top so that the hood seals? If I did do the lid, I was planning on having a scoop on the underside that routed air from the upper intake tract down towards the filter. Also going to re-wrap the piping with the same stuff primetime is using.
Also was going to install this:

and ducting behind the passenger side fog grill (already opened up) up into the airbox so the air flows up into the airbox more efficiently at speed.

Plastic behind the kidneys is already gone so it’s just those and then empty space up with some wires all the way up into the intake.
Will report back. Should have a chance to do it within the next week. I’ll do some vag logging and identical runs with both setups. Ought to be interesting results.
Also, glad I found this place. AZ 3.0T discussion is getting pretty dull/comical.
Yeah, I know you were joking, that’s why I called you a bitch!
I stand by what I said though…I don’t care what anyone does with respect to their car and adding them to the database, other than make sure you run at a certified track, and don’t be a kevkev.
I spend time on that thing so that all Audi S/RS owners can have a scale to measure potential mods. It has nothing to do with my personal standards on what makes a relevant benchmark.
welcome Ynnekdude. You have 1 post, and you alreayd have an avatar. That’s impressive.
Throw up some pics of your car in the A6 section. RS6 grille is a nice touch. We were recently talking about importing the C6 RS6 from Mexico in a thread somewhere on here. Drool. When I saw them in Switzerland I was really angry that we didn’t get the car here.
do 3.0T S4 or A6 have any auxillary radiators? Or was that just a 4.2 thing. The RS4 and the S5 and S4 all had 3 radiators, one big central one, and then two auxillary radiators behind the foglights.
That’s one reason the open element intakes didn’t work on the V8 cars…they were open and drawing hot air in from an already hot engine bay, but to boot, there’s a rad sending heat right up to it.
Thanks for the welcome.
I don’t mess around. Needs to be resized though.
Will do. Should have an opportunity to do all the work and take some vids/pictures in the upcoming weeks.
I believe we do but it sits in front of the the radiator in my car. Passenger side fog area is completely sealed off from it. One of the C6 3.0T guys actually has intake filter down there and his pipe leading all the way up to the TB. I’d probably have gone that route if I wasn’t worried about snow and water that collects down there.
Edit:

He swears by it but I haven’t seen any logs. Wish he had a vag-com. Also, haven’t seen pictures of the filter so I have no idea what side will fit down there.
Ken, Welcome to the forum… Glad to see more good folks/members joining… Still perfecting that intake I see I think I mentioned but I had a similar setup on my Mustang where the power pipe attached to the centrifual blower and than ran to the fender and piping down into the fender with the filter attached for colder air flow…
Saki, I know we don’t have anything on the passenger side(S4’s at least), for some reason I thought we had another heat exchanger/radiator on the driver side but I don’t see it on the engine study guide and I am not at home to look…
Kdude, water and snow is like free water injection… .unless you’re going into a super-deep puddle, no worries…just don’t seal it completely.
I don’t think there’s a lot of room on our cars though, IIRC there’s the air pump and hoses, and some body hangers…nothing that can’t be cut, relocated or deleted to those brave enough…
Thanks Ron, glad I found out where you guys were hiding.
Still perfecting. Don’t want to go back to the stock airbox if there are indeed gains to be had. Once I reflash v2.0 from APR, I will have to reevaluate the intake and its performance. Going to make sure that I log this time so there is no questioning its effectiveness.
I’m an A6 loner. We actually have tons of room back there. I’ll snap a pic for you guys later today. Unfortunately, not too many A6 owners doing much to their cars. Only a few of us have gone Stage II or done any sort of noteworthy work.
Haven’t ruled out the “true cold air intake” but I’m going to try out my method first and see how it performs. If not happy, I will likely go the aforementioned route.
Ynnekdude - welcome. How does the tip transmission in the A6 hold up? Is it sluggish as hell or fairly respectable?
^^^It’s not bad. I drove one that I had as a loaner when our B8 A4 was in for some service.
I think I started a thread in the A6 section because I immediately flogged it and did some PBOX and GTECH logging lol. I was shocked to hit 60 MPH in about 5.5 seconds, bone stock. The trans was good but got a little jerky if you were paddle shifting down around 1st. Understandable.

It’s decent. It actually shifts surprisingly quick for a tip. For the most part, I don’t mind it but definitely has its downfalls. Really wish I had DSG.

Actually been pestering JHM about tuning my TCU for over a year. Looking for some redline action and more aggressive shifts They finally gave me a glimmer of hope this past week - Dru said they are going to call me and discuss some options… Speak of the devil he just called me. Looks like it will be tough but I’m going to see if we can get something going.
