2.0T Turbo Question (Warning: Potentially Dumb Content Ahead)

I drove a friends revo stage 2 gti today, definitely a zippy car, but there’s noticeable turbo lag, more so than on a stock gti. A bit underwhelming if you stomp on the gas unless you have a stretch of road. My last car was a mitsu eclipse, which also has a 2.0T and was around 200bhp. It had no discernible turbo lag, and my friend’s eclipse, which was over 400whp, spooled the big turbo just fine on the stock block.

With all this in mind, is the weak low end I experienced due to tuning, or is there some mechanical limitation?

What transmission?

What mm turbo’s are they?

Dsg in the mk5, 5 speed manual in the eclipse… mk5 has a k03. eclipse has a 14b. I’m not sure what mm turbos they are…

Well DSG on those cars has a slight delay when you get on the throttle, that and the fact that there probably is a very slight turbo lag, cause you to fell that laggy sensation.
I had a TSI A3 with Revo software first and then APR software later on and neither one felt laggy to me, but my car was a manual.

I think this may have been a poor question from the start, I was reading up on both engines and realized the baseline cars I was comparing to are mk6’s, which have a slightly different engine than the mk5. I think the difference I felt might have been the same between a stock mk5 and mk6. That being said it is odd how well the 4g63t engine spools turbos compared to the audi 2.oT.

The changeover was 2008.5. So there are a few mk5’s out there with the “new” engine.

you can sneeze and those k03’s are at full boost.

I think its the slight delay in the drive by wire system that you would be experiencing.

I had a revo stage 2+ setup on my MK5 as well as Neuspeed optican and neither had any sort of lag. Only other thing I could think about is that there also may be a boost leak somewhere. With the 3071R I have it has a bit of lag but not much.

it was definitely the fsi not the newer tsi… That would make sense KB, probably was from drive by wire I don’t think it had a boost leak I was watching the boost gauge.

Lol it was so weird driving a modded turbo car again, bov sound, intake whoosh. GF loved it though.
