2005 A6 4.2 with the JHM Treatment...

I have a client who is a big European car enthusiast who owns a 2005 A6 4.2. He came around a few times when I was installing my SC kit a while back and began to ask question about what he can do to his car. I mentioned the possibilities it piqued his curiosity. So after more questions and answers he finally took the plunge. The car is one of his cruising vehicles so he isn’t looking for all out performance, but he wanted more out of it. The car has over 170k miles and the engine is still in great shape. In stock form it moved pretty good.

Anyway, it now has a couple of mods -

JHM 93 Tune
JHM Intake Manifold with tapered spacers

Coming soon -

Piggies
HR Rear Sway Bar
JHM LW Crank Pulley
JHM Stage 1 SC Kit (maybe)

He is still thinking about the last one, but know him he will do it eventually. His two other cars are a W211 MB E500 and an E39 BMW M5 with an ESS SC Kit.

I wasn’t feeling the yellow manifold when he first ordered it, but it doesn’t look to bad.

I will update this thread as he does more to the car. Hopefully he joins too, but he isn’t a big forum guy.

That’s a timing chain 4.2 like the s4 isn’t it?

Yes it is. It has a different engine code, but it is pretty much the same setup as a B6/7 S4.

cool stuff, good to see the s4 products move onto other 4.2s. the 2005 is kinf of a unicorn as far as motors, 04 was timing belt, 05 the s4 style motor, 06 fsi iirc.

I like the idea of a hotrod A6 with the S4 motor. NOt sure on the yellow. He has all those mods and still has his cats in the car… hmmm. How does it feel compaired to a S4.

Yeah, it is definitely rare. It would be interesting to find out how many were made with that motor.

@ChrisK, the car has improved over stock. It is way more responsive and a feels a bit quicker seat of the pants, but at the same time it does feel like it is being held back. In comparison to an S4 it definitely doesn’t feel as quick to ones I driven recently with just a tune. I am interested in seeing how it performs once the DPs are done. It is something I have mentioned to him from day 1 and he will eventually do it. It was supposed to get done a few weeks back, but the scheduling didn’t work out.

Interseting. def let us know how it changes once the Dps are done. I know htat was one of the biggest hang ups on my car. I did notice it helped out performance wise when they were gone.

Is it me or is that intake manifold yellow?

must be you

That shit is stock bro…

lol - His plan is to do the calipers and some other parts yellow as well. Funny thing is the day I was installing it we saw a blue car with yellow accents (cannot remember on what)… I could sort of see his vision at that time - sort of…

07 was the first year for FSI in the A8 and A6 4.2 cars.

Thwy came in as early as 06 but not the entire production run late 06 you can see a few… Its odd a6 and a8 have had mixed motors since day one it seems. I remember how confused I was when we were looking at getting an a8. I thought the guy was lying about the model year. I saw one with a fsi and when I saw the other non fsi I was thrown off. I know the a6 cars have several differnt motor codes from 2000-2006.

lol… I am going to refer to his car as bananas the next time I see him.

The sway bar is in. It made a nice difference in the rear end. The car is more planted through turns and there is no noticeable loss in ride quality.

On another note, He decided to go full catless with the DPs. That will be happening within the next 2 weeks.
