2005 S4 cab tiptronic under 8k miles at dealer... items to check for?

Hello. I am acquiring a very low mileage (under 8,000 , really) , super condition S4 cabriolet, 2005 from an Audi dealer.

My local Porsche shop has a dedicated Audi mechanic who told me a 2005 of this car from a dealer should be a great acquisition. I am coming from a Jaguar XKR coupe 2002, and previously a 2000 Boxster (5 years), so I am no stranger to maintenance and knowing a mechanic well.

Items that I should still check for?

Do I need to have the car checked by a different place than the dealer selling it?

Welcome to the site you definitely came to the right place.

The 2005 was a split year. I’d think checking to see where it’s at as far as b6 body or b7 would be a good place to start.
The big rule of thumb is get a compression test and leak down. Don’t just let them tell you the numbers all looked good make sure to post the numbers here. This’ll allow others to help give you feedback.

I’d say help identify if it’s a b6 or b7 2005 that’d help with giving you more direction.

that was hilarious!

You should probably spend the $150-250 to have it checked out somewhere. Some people lie…you never know. Some people are just ignorant of what the story really is on a car. So I would get it checked out. Biggest issue with that car is the cylinder walls had a propensity for scoring due to piston deformation and a hot engine. Scored walls mean oil consumption and loss of compression/power so it could literally make the car worth only $5,000 if that’s the case (a B6 or B7 without an engine isn’t worth much at all)

If the price is over $20,000 I would seriously consider not buying it. These are 10 year old cars now, and hell for $40,000 you could buy a 2008 RS4 cab…incredibly rare ,insanely over-engineered engine, widebody, and all out excellent car.

If you do buy it, immediately get the pre-cats gutted. They trap heat in the engine and contribute to the piston problems mentioned above. You will then need some $30 o2 spacers to avoid a CEL (or a JHM tune).

$18,000 car

Great idea to ask questions first.

The two posts above are great things to do. Check the health of the motor with a compression test and when you do decide to get the car know there are some must do moves your going to want to make. The precats are a must remove.

I would highly suggest getting the car independently looked at. Have them scan the car for any stored codes. I’d the car really has that low Mike’s your going to want to see if it’s been in for any of the service updated parts. The coil packs were recalled and should be replaced for free. Check to see if that or any other services were done.

Once again even if a car has that few Mike’s your going to want to look at the fuel filter air filter. What might be a good idea would be to check the coil packs and spark plugs. If you can get pictures of those especially the part numbers on the coil packs that should be able to tell us more of the date on the car and it’s mileage
