I have a damaged cylinder on my 07 s6 and have been looking for a replacement engine or block. Does anyone know if all other years of the cars with 5.2 engines are compatible with the 2007? I’ve seen a couple ads for motors stating that the engine listed is for 08-11 S6’s. I was under the impression they were all the same. Currently, have an ad up in the classifieds looking for someone with an engine in Ontario Canada if anyone hasn’t seen it.
All S6 engines are the same. S8 engine will fit as well
That’s great, thanks for the speedy response.
How interesting my piston in cylinder 6 destroyed itself about 12 years ago at 74k miles. Best of luck getting yours back on the road
Any ideas as to why the cylinder failed? How has it been serviced?
Unfortunately, Cylinder 6 damage was caused by a piece of the one of the fuel line hold down brackets coming apart during a carbon clean and fell in through the valve opening and into the cylinder. I did manage to find another short block but it had a spun connecting rod bearing so I’m in the process of a full rebuild. Short block assembly is complete, and am now working on the cylinder heads.
If you are re-using the rockers, make sure you check the rollers for radial play.
A few months ago, I had a rocker arm come out of place (due to excessive wear in the needle rolling elements) and jam up under the tone wheel on the exhaust cam.
