Greetings S6c6 guys.
After an engine pull for oil leaks and jhm spacer install among other needed repairs, I have a wiring issue that I could really use help resolving. Engine back in car, car starts but runs poorly. Scan says cam sensor intake as well as exhaust and engine speed sensor. My specific question is do all 3 tie into one common harness plug? Before I start throwing new parts at the car, I thought that possible the harness may be ill-connected but as you all know, with the engine in place its nearly impossible to see, let alone access much of this drivetrain. Any help would be much appreciate. Erik
which scanner are you using? please share the codes. also try swapping the cam sensor’s and see what happens. also with the use of a multimeter when the car is switch on ( engine of ) connect the multimeter to the sensor cable check if you can see if you have current flowing. might be the cable is cut somewhere. also very important does the car shake heavily ? does it go off by itself ?
Sweet is right. Post the codes your getting and that will help us tell you more. If you have a vag com (thats what I would recomend) pull the capture time data and we can really tell you more. If it was the speed sensor the car wouldnt start and it wouldnt stay running. So that code might be intermintent but again getting the actual codes would help.
I’ll rescan and post the specific codes when I go into the warehouse later today.
I’ve got a Launch GDS And a snap-on solus. Mostly been using the Launch for my non-domestics.
Also, what seems to be the best repair manual available for the S6C6? I’ve got access to Mitchell on demand but not too thrilled. Anyone here use the Bentley book (actually I think it’s only on DVD rom)?
I bought the bentley manual, yes it’s DVD Rom only, and it’s a typical Bentley manual that sometimes is vague in telling you how to remove items. Part schematics are fairly good however.
thats great. any news regarding the codes. also you mentioned they pulled the engine out to fix an oil leak. where exactly was the oil leaking from? what it the crank case ? or was it just the top cover gaskets. when you start your car is your rpm stabble ?. or is it playing. awaiting the codes thanks
Sorry about the delay, life sometimes requires time spent towards other priorities. I jumped the gun and ordered new bank 1 cam sensors as well as an engine speed (crank sensor). After the quite swap, the car did seem to run better, however the cel came on and I was still getting a message indicating none correlating signal between crank and cam position sensor. After some quick probing around, I discovered on bank one I had inadvertently swapped the plugs for the two camshaft solenoid’s, as the harness is able to actually reach both when reversed, and the harness plugs are identical, ust with little remaining harness slack. Now the only code is p2004 I believe telling me I have a stuck intake flap (great)…
My initial reasons for the motor pull was sever leaking of oil into the spark plug tubes and an oil leak dripping on the exhaust and smoking.
Now the oil leak is far worse then ever and I can actually just about see it leaking from what look like just at or above the drivers side, lower and rear corner of the valve cover. I polled the cover inspected it and the gasket and still have a terrible oil leak.
