2010 S6 - about to purchase, engine video

Hello Audi Forums,

I am new here, about to purchase a 2010 S6 and I would love it if someone would watch this video and give me feedback? It’s the engine bay, with engine running. I hear a ticking noise, was curious if this is normal.

Car drives amazing, it’s lowered, has Milltek exhaust, BBS wheels and new Michelin Super Sports, handles almost like my M3 (up for sale) and pulls like a monster!

Here’s the video:

Thanks for any feedback!

White even! ticking is the fuel injectors; they’re a bit louder on GDI anything than they are on MPI engines (probably because of the higher pressures?), sounds normal to me.

Depending on the generation of M3 (I’ve had several e30’s, an e36 and F80), an S6 definitely doesn’t feel like an M3, but it’s definitely capable of hiding it’s size pretty well.

If the Carfax reads well, service records are in order; it sounds like a solid purchase! From what I’ve read, the C6 is way more reliable than any of the Bavarians I’ve owned with more than 6 cylinders… I’ve had 3 BMW V12’s and a V10 (shudder), and nothing I’ve read about the C6S6 even comes close to the horror stores of the aforementioned. M20B25 is a bulletproof engine with an understressed trans; C6S6 seems to come close to that…

I’ve yet to actually receive my car, so honestly…what do I know?! Waiting for CV, Justin and the other gaggle of gurus here to chime in.

PS - jealous of the color and BBS’s!

What I always tell people is to look for the data in vag com. See if the codes have been cleared and if the car has any codes.

as for the video. Its a good high res video and you can get a good idea on how the car is working.

The high pitched noise around the throttle bodys are them still adapting so that is good but you want to make sure there are no codes.

You can hear the hiss and howl of the PCV system that sounds good and as compug mentioned the FSI injection system is louder than the standard SI system.

Used S6s are hard to gauge. There is a list of things that need to be serviced and changed and all that stuff starts to come into play around 65k. If the car has clear codes and the readyness tests have all passed its a good start.

If you have more questions let us know.

but from what limited things we can see and hear in the video it looks great.

Couldn’t see the video but godspeed on your ownership journey… If you go in expecting to add another $5-10k into the car, you’ll be happy/content I think… I’m about uhhhh $8-10k in… I think more like $10k, but I need to look…

Great point. No matter what the miles expect to do some clean up as most past owners are not that versed on what needs to be done or a lot of time they dont know what needs to be done maintantence wise. Or worse they sold the car because they were not able to figure out small issues.

I know what you mean by the money Justin. Custom manifolds, custom exhaust, couple of JHM parts, complete rebuild then a custom tune coming so I have $$$$ in it but it will be good for a long time and still cheaper than buying a new car.

Nice and very true.
