3.0T Updated Breather

Been trying to track this one down for a little bit - when I do the thermostat here in a couple weeks, I want to put in the updated breather for the pcv system. I am told this came on the Q5s? That plus a software flash is recommended for 3.0T cars burning oil, which mine currently is. TSB# from Audi seems to be 2030197/15, from what I gather online it’s NHSTA# 10051502. Can’t find the correct part # linked to the TSB anywhere, has anyone on here done this? If not, I may just order the one for the Q5 and see how it goes. Like the t-stat, it’s under the compressor so I’d like to not have to do it too many times.

Thanks

There is the link to a water pump replacement thead it might be helpful. Ordering the Q5 unit might help and I cant see why it would be much different then the one you have now. Not too sure on why a software update would help with burning oil and maybe jimmy can chime in on this thread and say something there.

Let us know how it goes.

It would be a good idea to replace the breather or valve and the little elbow connector piece to the bottom of the supercharger for the PCV system. I don’t trust Audi/VW PCV systems because they tend to be pretty crappy. At least with an A6 3.0T, it is easier to get the SC off and on than a B8 S4/S5 cab.

It is interesting that they came out with a software change to reduce oil burning. It must change a lot of the part throttle/low load parameters to reduce the oil being sucked through the PCV system.

You would think they might work on cam overlap to reduce the vac pull.

Thanks, I had read through the thermostat article already but its always a good reference. That’s on the list for doing while I am in there, along with a carbon cleaning.

Are there 2 breathers for the PCV system below the supercharger? I thought there was only 1? I agree though, after recently replacing a factory original PCV system on a 13 yr old 1.8T with 175k on it…it should almost be a 100k mile PM item.
