4.0T Performance Parts

That looks fatter at least.

Man the bends are frigging hideous.

Not to mention they utilized the stock flapper

I don’t think they realize what it’s for.

what do you mean by the stock flapper? The exhaust valves? Why wouldn’t they know what it’s for? They’re probably vacuum actuated and can be plugged off if you want full volume all the time, but if the car has a ‘sport mode’ where it opens them and can be turned off for quiet, you would DEFINITELY want to keep that. It’s great on the RS4.

Unlike the RS4 flap, its only closed during 4-cylinder mode.

It has nothing to do with Sport/dynamic modes, it only closes in 7th gear while highway cruising basically.

So that straight thru exhaust is going to drone and be loud as a mofo for 97% of the time. If they wanted to quiet the exhaust down and replicate the sport mode of the RS4, they will need a full manual toggle switch.

Why will it drone 97% of the time?

It’s a 4.0 V8. It will drone from 1200-2000 RPM, in all likelihood…although the turbos should delete lots of that.

John posted a video of the intake in development for the 4.0T:

It will be loud as a mofo 97% of the time being a straight thru design with one set of mufflers at the end, and the stock flap only set to close during 4-cylinder mode which is only 3% of the time (guess)

you said Drone

This kind of drone?

bah

you said it will drone and be loud as a mofo.

It won’t. It’s not a V6.

Do tell why a V8 is different vs. V6 for drone.

I am new to this obviously and trying to research/learn.

I would like to order the Milltek non-resonated and put a valve on it for in neighborhood driving. Basically create my own RS sport exhaust. However, I am skeered about the drone and how it affects the ANC system on the car.

My dad ran pretty much a straight pipe at one point on his RS4, and i had no cats, no resonators, and just two 6" mufflers on my B6 S4 and as loud as it was at WOT it had almost zero drone on the highway. Now the turbos will quiet it down even more so i don’t think you will have much drone if any at all even non-resonated. V8’s just sound better and drone so much less than the 3.0 and all V6’s in general.

I am fine with doing an exhaust as long as I can quiet it down when cruising around town and cold startup.

different engines have different drone zones. Small v6 like the b8 and it’s probably up around 2500-3500 I’m guessing? Nightmarish because that’s right in highway cruising rpms. The e46 m3 had this problem on many aftermarket exhausts.

Small v8 around 1200-1800 rpms .

You can adjust the exhaust to increase or decrease drone. Unlike popular misconception, resonators won’t help with drone. They really just clean up raspy sound from the exhaust. The resonators may actually cause more drone if you can believe it. That is unless the resonator contains sound cancelling elements like the Apr rsc system.

Take a v8 with a very open system, say no cats, no resonators, no mufflers and you will have little to no drone (and you will wake the dead when you go WOT).

1700-2100 is drone zone for the B8 S4.

As far as ECU upgrades go, I believe we are the only company with a full upgrade, supporting all ECUs.

The MTM stuff is a cantronic, piggy back unit. 034 tested one on a customers car and posted the results on Audizine and the results are not good.

Unitronic has a flash, but I believe they have it for the one ECU box code that had less encryption. I don’t think I see it on their website and I’m sure they and everyone else is having trouble figuring out how to flash the other ECUS.

FWIW, on 91 octane and on 034’s dyno, here’s what the same car put down stock, APR tuned and ECU Piggyback tuned.

Interesting to see the torque map on the S6 dominating HP. Looks like a B5 with K03 turbos (shape wise…not absolute number wise).

Are the turbos that small that they’re running out of juice?

p.s. why are the two ‘stock’ torque runs so dramatically different? Just that goofy little hump at 2700 or so RPM?

the turbos might actually make the droning worse. overall it should quiet the v8 down but the constant air flow from the turbos spinning will make it a nightmare.

luckily the cars it is bolted in weigh 8 tons so it shouldnt be too bad
