Getting ahead of myself a bit, but what’s the scoop on the jhm Nos kit? I assume it would be adaptable to the allroad 4.2?
it should be. it’ll make for a quick car if you have everything else up to snuff (2.5" catless exhaust at a minimum, headers definitely prefered). the stock exhaust manifolds dont handle all the extra flow well
have we ever seen the manifolds on the allroad? Wonder if they’re different…
That would be insane… the jhm nitrous kit would fit… the 4.2 allroad motor are the same externial just different cams amd stuff from what I know. You see more 4.2 allroads here on the east coast… just saw one today
Too much for the tip to handle I wonder?
seeing that justincredible went 12.2 @116 in his tip nitrous b6…nope.
I believe the 4.2 allroads were the 5spd trans, not the 6spd like in the S4s. Typically the 5spds have had more issues. Not to say it would, but the comparison may not be as direct.
Yep. 5-spd tip
Wasn’t the right deal in the end. Bummer
Let me ask this of you guys. Is it simply inevitable that the 4.2 will suffer from some sort of cct tensioner / guide failure requiring repairs of at least some level. Or do many never see an issue?
I know this is a main point of discussion. Is there a consolidated thread to point me to so I can read up more on the issue(s). Thanks.
You WILL see at least the guide crack. We have a whole pile of them in our front office for people to ooh ahh at. We highly suggest doing at least our intermediate kit, because the mechanical adjusters are also a big failing point.
Also, we are working on a solution for those mechanical adjusters that should bring costs down as well reduce failure rates.

Thanks Jake. Was looking over all your offerings if/when time comes. Just didn’t happen as soon as hoped.

Any rs4 guys having problems with chain guides/adjusters?
And are the s4 problems limited to b6 or is b7 same deal?
From what we have seen, the RS4 has much higher quality timing chain assemblies, and we have yet to have or find an RS4 with a timing chain/guide issue. This could be due to the scarcity of RS4s but we have taken apart quite a few high mileage RS4 engines and we were quite surprised with how everything had held up.
The timing chain issues are not limited to the B6-B7 S4, but every chassis that utilizes the same chain driven 4.2L that the S4 uses, like the 2005 A6 4.2l and the timing chain 4.2l allroad etc.

Jake - reading that is like music to my ears.
All though it may sound good, it does not mean that it cannot happen. While we see the S4 timing chain service needing to be done mostly around 100k miles, the RS4 may end up being around 150k miles, who knows. We just have to get more RS4s up there in the mileage to quantify the data.
Only time will tell, but so far so good.
