5.2 engine minor rebuild

Hey guys I recently bought 5.2 engine with 80k miles i plan on putting it into an s8 and since i have the engine out i figured i might as well change some stuff. I plan on changing all the tensioners with INA and timing chains with iwis. I will also change the cradle gasket and whatever obvious gaskets like the around the engine that I can get to.

Is there anything I should specifically change since I’ll have the timing cover off since I’m at that point? And is there a oem silicone i can get instead of getting the audi one

I would change rocker arms as they prone to fail with age and valve joints too. I have replaced my engine due to a rocker arm failure…

I definitely thought about changing them but they are pretty pricey. I’ll definitely keep it in mind because then again whoever used that engine before I have no idea if they took care of it or neglected it which why I’m even bothering to change the timing

But so far I have 2 s6 running well they are both at around 130k

One of them I pulled engine out when I was 16 and changed the tensioners and gaskets at 70ish k

And the other one I bought from someone with 90k with nothing done major but was maintained well and is still running well.

I do change the oil on both of them every 5k

This s8 will be my 3rd v10

Is there anything else I should change that isn’t too expensive?

By cradle gasket, do you mean the upper pan gasket? If so, and you’re getting that far, wouldn’t it be at least worth it to pull a Rod cap and see how the bearing are? I’d pull a cap off the front or back rod as they will normally have more wear than one in the middle.

Sorry I mean the inner valve cover gasket. The one where you have to remove the cams

Oe silicone is Loctite 5970
