5.2 V10 tapping on cold start?

basicaly once i open up the tests i should see all 8 in green yes?

if i see failed or incomplete means the code was just recently reset?

If your paying that much money then yes all the tests should be green. None of them should say incomplete or failed. If any of them are incomplete there is a good chance they cleared the codes recently and that on these cars is a big big big red flag

SUCCESS:D we bought the silver s8.

I checked it on the hoist, only issue i saw were the UCA bushings were starting to deteriorate a bit…easy and cheap job to do at home with the press thanks to the wonderful collective knowledge of AW. Everything else looked good.
Then plugged in the VCDS, for some reaosn the advanced measure block for live data logging was greyed out, but it passed all the readyness tests no problems. It came up with two codes, and just now i am reading that i would hav eto scan ecu 2 seperately, but hindsight is 2020…never dealt with tscanning a car with 2 ecus.
Either way, im not overly concerned as the price was good, the car is very clean throughout save some scuffs under the front bumper from city driving, and interior is just immaculate.

Most importantly, at least to me-the car drove spectacular. suspension lowered and raised as it should, S mode definitly woke the tranny right up-I didnt notice S make a difference in the one in MI we drove. flappy paddles and all buttons inside worked. Those parking sensors and camera are wicked. Drove it about 20 minutes, up to 80 mph for a brief moment but traffic was atrocious ont he freeway

This thing felt like it had more balls than the other one too.
So it did have that plastic tapping noise 2-3 seconds after cold start, but then went away after the car was coming off of high idle. It seems to be coming from the main inlet manifold at the back of the intake…perhaps its the flaps or the levers are loose for the flaps causing them to rattle, and then the vacuum increases as the throttles close to come off high idle, holding the flaps down? I dindt poke around too too much. Car pulled real hard from idle to redline, no shakes, no pulling under braking, no drifting while on the freeway.
smaller mechanical faults are ok, i hate shakes, and body damage.

anyway here is what the scan showed:
bad connection or bad mount for the one? and dont know what the other one is isnc ei didnt scan second ECU…like I said, maybe something to do with flaps or a misfire on startup due to them? More investigation once we take delivery of the car.

hrm, looks like that 2nd fault was trifggered this afternoon when I got in shortly before 1:30 to scheck it out…strange.

Congrats. Exciting times.

a quick post.

1 your motor mount is bad you probably want to replace that.
2 check ECU 2 see that that is reporting
3 See what your carbon siuation looks like. The cold start stuff is part SAI and you can remove that and part possible carbon.
