6speed RS6 for sale on RS6.com

Not my car and no affiliation with the seller.

There is a link in the for sale ad to a 20 page thread.

On the very first page a user writes:

Anyone taking bets on when this one is for sale?

His response:

That doesn’t seem very nice…This makes my 3rd major project car. Unless I come into a ton of money I don’t see any way to out grow this car. It has everything I need. 4 doors, all wheel drive, child harnesses, heated seats, 8 piston brakes, 2 turbos, 8 cylinders.

And now, less than a year later it is up for sale after a lot of $$$ invested.

After several C5 project cars, I definitely feel for the seller. He is going to have a hard time getting decent money for it in its current condition, I would guess. Might be a deal for someone.

I’d be interested but not anywhere near that kind of money.

Agreed.

For a car that is not running properly, I think it becomes a good deal at about $11-12k. I didnt read through the whole 20 page thread, but the bit that I did, and he was having problems.

I think the biggest problem with these cars (6speed swap RS6s), and one of the big reason everyone dumps them after finishing, is probably the first gear in the 01e, and the 1-2 shift. It made my A6 4.2 uncomfortable to drive at times, but it was still a fun car. But first never feels right. Even on the 4.2, you are through it so quickly that it is pretty much useless.

Then, when you are up at 7000rpm, the transmission feels like it is going to explode. If you go full out, and power shift it, you can actually get a nice ‘pop’ into second and the tires will squeal. But one screw up on the powershift and you could do serious damage. And in everyday driving, it just doesnt feel right.

If you everyday driving, if you dont rev it way up, it is very hard to shift smoothly into second without letting the revs drop and making a very slow shift. Combine that with a ceramic clutch and LWFW, and it feels really jerky. The RS6 would need a crazy clutch to hold all the power. So, I can only guess that it is even worse.

Anyway, that was my experience with the C5 and 01E. I talked about the 01E with CV one day, about a longer first gear. I think that may solve a lot of the issues. But, I dont know for sure and I am all Cfive’d out.

Twin turbo V8 and you DON’T want an automatic?

All the big build cars get sold. Most of the people who do these big builds hands on are enjoying the build not the result. So when it’s done they have ants in their pants and move on. It’s weird.

In general these people don’t enjoy having fast cars… They enjoy working on cars . If the car is done, they get no enjoyment. These are the guys who never go to the dragstrip or do acceleration testing too. They just aren’t into it.

Funny and true. You don’t see the rs7 guys saying “gee I wish I could change gears on my own and drop out of boost all the time”

I think the nature of the bigger cars suits an automatic just fine… Unfortunately Joe the transmission in those old rs6 cars tended to fail with regularity so they seek a change. A manual that worked in the b5 s4 seemed a good solution. I would rather see a stronger autobox.

I never really thought of that, but yeah, what you guys are saying makes perfect sense.

Interesting observation. I know there is a bit of that in me, even though I don’t do the hands on stuff myself on my cars. I have found that I always have to have at least one project on the go at all times, whether it be home project, mountain bike build, or car. When I am coming close to the end of completing one, I find myself looking around for the next one.

I would love to keep every bike I built or every car I modded. But what usually happens is that I need to sell them to gather the funds for the next. And for cars, I only have parking for two cars comfortably, and one is for my wife. If I had space for one more, I would definitely add a two door sports car. But finances and space dictate a single, four season, spacious, all-in-one solution, which I think the Audi does better than anyone.

Apparently, car has been SOLD
