A/C issue

Good to hear.

I noticed after mine got “fixed”, I still have “AC/low” on my vagcom engine 01 module? Just saw that. Wonder if my system is still low on refrigerant?

Gonna use my Vag Com for the first time this weekend and plug it in and try to figure not only how to use it but look at this thread to troubleshoot and see if my compressor is gone as well.

Report back what your measuring block says in engine module 01. Not 100% sure which one, but want to see if it says AC/low like mine. My AC blows cold, just curious for how long.

Thanks

I hope its not, but your in the right place to get some help.

That sucks they were that off on trying to get this fixed. how is the car now that the weather is warming up. Is the AC still cool. I just checked my AC and I added a little to mine. It made a good difference in cooling. It might be worth getting the AC fill testt. The one thing you dont want to do is have it too low for too long it will take out the compressor.

Today was really the first day that I used it the whole ride home. Its cold, but can be a tad bit colder. Its slightly off from when I used it last year, but not by much. I had planned on getting filled the correct way. You just reminded me to check to see if anyone has any a/c specials. Getting my catback rite was a real pita though. Still isn’t where I want it to be, but I will worry about it when I piggy my dp’s in a few months.

when you piggie the car that will really help and it would be a great time to look over the exhaust.

As for the AC I would get one of those AC fill kits and just top it off and see where its at. When you get one of the AC top off kits they come with a gauge so you can test the system first.

Thats what I used to fill it. It was in the filled range, but I also know those things aren’t accurate.

Just keep in mind the fill range will be dependent on the outside temps. The outside temps can effect the system pressure so just make sure to adjust the range to reflect the outside temp if you didnt already

Sorry i haven’t reported back. I got really busy and i haven’t had a chance. I’ve been out of the state and now my car is a shop getting the bumper repainted (was chipping really bad around the clear bra). I should have it back this weekend. If so ill see if i cant scan it.

Thanks. When/if you get a chance

Just had a weird issue pop up with my cooling system. Driving through desert, 108°, vent starts blowing warm air suddenly. Both coolant and oil temp gauges start steadily creeping up. Shut off ac and they settle back to normal. Is this a thermostat issue I’m guessing?

I would say its a better chance that your heat exchanger that sits infront of the rad was warming up the air too much that went to the rad and that the units were both so hot they couldnt dessipate the heat. Were you driving slowly when this happened

Highway cruising

You generally see this in city driving but its not impossible to happen at highway speeds. Generally the fans kick on and help pull out some of the heat. At highway speeds the fans wont turn on but there should be enough cross wind. In 108 temps and possibly even higher due to the road temps being higher then the surounding air due to the sun beating down on it all day that can be enough to tax the system if your running the AC.

The AC started working normally again later.

It did work normal after. Think it was just too much for the system to handle?

It was alarming to see the oil temp gauge creeping up in conjunction with the coolant.

Any other sensors I should be looking at as culprits?

I just looked at vcds. My bad, its operating normal. Reads ac/low when off. Turn it on and it switches to reading ac/high

I think that the car just momentarily had a shit fit. The older C5s have been acting strange as of late around me. I had an Allroad that kept throwing the warning lights for the low washer solvent, a brake light being out, and the reset button on the wiper arm stalk wouldn’t work. Unplugged the instrument cluster, let it sit for a few minutes, plugged it back in, and everything was fine.

Well it sure wasnt ideal conditions in 110ish temps.
