A3 2.0t timing belt

I’m hitting my head on a rock here guys.
I purchase June '13 a 2006 a3 2.0t FSI BPY.
The previous owner informed the lot I bought it from that timing belt was serviced, as all tsb on this cAr was done. So I was informed by the lot that the car was serviced: obviously I took that with a grain of salt…

Car has now 139k on the clock and I purchased with 108k.

How to know if the belt was indeed changed?

All tsb checks at audi records but no record of the belt being done. I popped the plastic cap and I see 3 things and wonder:

1-) The belt is still textured on the inside, is that an indicator of a new or old belt?

2-) is it normal to be that dusty in there? I do drive some dirt roads from time to time but that much dirty?

3-) there is a hand made white mark on the mark of the pulley. (The one to align with OT) Does that means the belt was services? Does the car get out the factory with a mark on that pulley when they are timing it at the factory?

Car runs fine i am just worried if this 2 things (texture and white mark) doesn’t necessarily means the belt was serviced and I’m actually running overtime on this timing belt.

Thanks for the reply guys.

The belt generally isn’t the part that fails. It seemed to be the tensioner. It’s hard to determine the age of the belt and if it’s been changed.

1 it could be ether. The texture isn’t going to be helpful in tell tail signs. If I remember correctly that’s aftermarket. Check the part numbers on the belt.

2 dust and dirt are normal. Within reason

3 can you show the mark in a picture.

Here is what I would do. Keep spinning the motor over inspecting the belt at each point. Make sure the belt is free of any cracks or interference damage. Try to grab the part numbers off the belt when doing this. That will help tell more information.

Usually if the belt was serviced, some mechanics will make a mark for TDC. I do this and that mark is not from the factory. That yellow dust is normal, the belts on those motors are very strong and IIRC have kevlar built built into them, and only these belts for 2.0T BPY type motors have this yellow dust. If you see marke there, good chance it was changed, but your guess is as good as mine. If you do the belt use the OEM or HEPU brand water pumps, stay away from GRAF,SALERI,no name/Asia brands. HEPU makes a killer kit with all OEM tensioners/OEM belt/hardware,etc.
Motor mount on side is PITA to get out, first one is always the hardest, have fun.

Thank you for the reply guys. I didn’t want to take a chance, bit the bullet and replaced everything. I ordered the belt kit sold by europaparts which is completely oem and they do sell the HEPU water pump.

Motor mount was indeed a freaking B. To remove it and I probably lost 2 pounds of sweat afraid to mess up the timing or something lol.

The belt was services BTW as the tensioner seemed very similar looking as the new one and the pump was already a metal impeller.

Thanks again for the help guys.

The big is the metal impeller. Worst case you just got piece of mind and even newer parts. Good call

No doubt Justin. It was my line of thought. And for $300 in parts plus some of my time. It far outweighs the guessing and worries.

06 A3 6MT - APR stage 2+, APR turbo back, IE HPFP upgrade, Borg Wagner FMIC, Hotchkis sway bar, K&N CAI …work in progress…

just replace it and then its a known… white mark indicates that some has been in there but many shops will only due the belt! we do seals belt tensioner roller wp etc… anything under the cover gets renewed

Thats the right way of doing it
