ABS control module looks like it's going out

I was driving the other day and random the brake light, abs, and traction control light up on the dash breaks work and all however this

So the question is go for the rebuild or new one which from the looks of things is another 1700.00 into the damn car.

Just after I fixed the overheating issue and one of the airbag sensors is bad too, I swear this car is just shitting itself

And more codes I’ve tried to clear them
Looks like I can’t get away from this one

If you try to clear codes those codes just come right back correct.

One thing to try is to pull the ABS fuse out and see if there are more codes that pop up. That will let you know just how good or bad the ABS unit is

Didn’t think about doing that, yeah the codes just come back instantly as some are stored in the ECM. One thing I did notice is it can’t even communicate with the ABS module at all.

Thats usually a good sign that the module is not in good shape. You can unplug it but from what I have seen the connection to that is going to be hard to get to. Usually unplugging it and then plugging it back in about 5 min later can reset the full module if you cant comunicate with it. If its just done and there is no hope of saving it then doing that will obviously not help

Replaced the module, all is well.

Just a heads up you can replace the module without removing the actually pump the hard lines to the brake line can flex a little just enough to be able to remove the module off of the pump.

You have to remove the air box, and to make it easier unbolt the bracket that holds the ABS pump in place if you do that you can pull and get your hand in there in there to unscrew the module.

Tools Needed:

Phillips
Flathead
E6 External Torx Bit (Harbor Freight has a nice set) 9.99
10mm Socket

Optional:
Thumb Wheel Ratchet Wrench (Helps get into the tight space also at Harbor Freight)

Interesting so the electronics on the ABS system were bad not the actual hardware.

Did you use module masters or just get a new unit

A rebuilt unit, however now the EPC and ABS light are common on sporadically. It almost seems like its when the car warms up and the the headlight went out and then came on randomly as well. It might be more of a wiring issue than anything. Im still diagnosising the issue. Right now there is no Tell tale sign of what it could be. I’ve heard of the steering angle sensor causing the same issue as well. But, we’ll see.

Really sounds like an electronic glitch. Those things are really hard to nail down

A little update on this little gremlin of an issue,

The ESP and ABS light come on sporadically seems as though if the car gets warm/hot the lights come on and the throws the code of module communication and brake pressure sensor communication intermittent.

On top of that issue the left headlight sporadically goes out just like the ESP and ABS when the car warms up.

If the car is left sitting overnight everything works fine again in the morning. Seems like the issues may be related and i’m halfway tempted to admit defeat and take the car to Audi.

The saga continue it’s either a faulty abs module or the module in the abs mechanism is faulty, either way quoted 2k+ to fix it …even after replacing the abs module this car is getting troublesome

That’s crazy… Is that comprised mostly labor or material cost?

Did you already replace the ABS module

I’ve already replaced the module once ironically it worked for about two weeks then shit the bed again.

When I had my C5 A6 I had an issue with one of the ABS sensors. Apparently there was a small nick in the cable that eventually allowed the road grime to do its thing and cause issues. Could be worth looking in to. Check the wiring between the wheel wells and along the steering knuckles up front - maybe you’ll get lucky and find an easy fix.

ok so looking at the first post and the codes your getting.

Have you fixed the parking brake code. You should be able to relearn the parking brake in vag com if you need to.

Also it says its an implausable code are you still getting that code.

The parking brake code is associated with whatever is going on with the abs module. For example when it did work I cleared al the codes none came back, when it started dorking up the parking break code arose again.

You might have already done this but just to add it. When you do the rear breaks or any service work on the rear breaks you need to go into vag com and make sure to set and re set the parking brake. Then you need to hit done. If you dont do it properly you will get the code your getting.

Abs Module was replaced with a repair module lights are still on Audi tech is saying it’s the ABS pump itself sending codes luckily I had an extra one of those as well. Let’s see what happens next

Update: it ended up being the ABS unit itself. The module was replaced and then the ABS unit total plus parts and labor 1200.00 vs the 2800.00 including the new ABS unit + module that Audi quoted. I think I’m at $40k with repairs for this car and that’s me being moderate
