I would think it should. Check back and update the thread if you can. It will be good to know if that fixed it.
New MAF went in today and I am PUMPED to report that the problem is gone. The car now pulls MUCH harder in the lower RPM’s and there is no sputtering. I’m going to run some logs to make sure the fueling isn’t still out of whack but I’m guessing things will be back to normal.
Justin thank you for your knowledge and guidance! If I could bump your karma I would but maybe someone can take care of that for me
Glad I can help. Here is what you can do to show appreciation. Keep posting here and help guide members with issues here. I have been reading crazy stuff on other website and incredibly wrong information. Here there are lots of good people and it’s growing each day. It’s always better to help people in a drama free environment.
Done
Also glad to hear you’ve fixed the issue.
Great News
Just replaced mine too.
Jim
Justin you are a gentleman and a scholar. Its awesome to read through a thread like this. problem posted, questions asked, problem solved!
Unfortunately the problem has come back. About a week after the new MAF went in it started misfiring again. I did not get a chance to log it while it was running great but obviously something else is out of whack. Is it possible that some underlying problem is fouling out the MAF? I’m really not technically inclined enough to figure this kind of stuff out but would my next step be to check the O2’s since there’s a difference in the fueling of each bank?
That’s what we are here for. You don’t need to try and figure this out on your own.
Missfires might be part of the aftermath. So don’t get too worried. Is there anything at all different between The cars issues this time and last. Give it a few days and then do the logs. Check for codes and bring back what you found.
Same exact symptoms as before. Car ran great then within a 3 day period the issue got more and more consistent. Now it is happening just as frequently as before the new MAF went in. It’s been the same for over a week now so I’ll scan it and get some logs soon. With my (collision repair) shop crazy busy and my after work schedule I just don’t know if I’ll have the time to be working on the car myself. My mechanic is very good but I’d like to get him pointed in the right direction if I use him.
In other bad news my puppy got into a bottle of ibuprofen and the vet bill ate over half of my supercharger funds… FML
That ducks about the dog. Do the same thing disconnect the maf and see if that prevents the miss fire
–UPDATE–
Ran the car with the MAF disconnected but this time the car sputtered and misfired each time on second and third gear pulls. Maybe the first time I tried this with the old MAF I just got lucky (or unlucky) and the car pulled smooth idk.
Most recent logs: Fueling is still out of whack, lots of misfires. I really wish I got some logs when the car was running well. I never cleared after I disconnected the MAF so the first two codes I believe are from that.

Recently the problem has got worse and now at low RPM it is misfiring a lot. It’s very noticeable pulling from a stop in 1st gear or when cruising below 2k and accelerating. Also, the check engine light came on and new codes came up.

The car is getting a lean code on the passenger side on the motor. It looks like you had a vac leak and now is worse. The maf codes are old. Check the fuel trims and post those that should help. Then clear the codes drive for about 30 miles and then post the updated fuel trims after that short drive.
This is just getting frustrating. Time to work on my car has been short so I dropped it off to my mechanic Friday to figure out. He smoke checked it and immediately found a small hole in the front passenger side of the intake manifold behind the flap actuator valve. He reported that it was causing a MAJOR leak…

He sealed it with some black RTV but it must not have been completely dry because when I got home it had blew (or sucked?) right back through the hole.

After removing the RTV and sanding off the powder coating around the hole I re-sealed it with some JB weld and let it sit all weekend. I didn’t see any obvious damage to the area where the hole was so I’m thinking there might have been a flaw in the casting and it finally let go through the powder coating. Or possibly that area is where a bolt comes up into from inside the manifold? Either way the hole is sealed up and there are no obvious air leaks now…
Now the frustrating part. Car is doing the exact same thing. Here’s a log from today. Shit ton of misfires, fuel trims out of whack, no codes, no CEL … Wouldn’t you think after 49 misfires in 5 seconds something would trigger? At least a flashing CEL? What’s my next step?

OK well I think you still have a leak somewhere or there is an issue with the intake manifold on the inside. You can see the one bank is over 12% too rich but your getting a lean code.
Try logging the fuel trims at idle. Then part throttle then wot. Miss fire recognition turns off at a point where there is enough load.
Issue is finally resolved!!! After running some more logs with the new MAF in I was only seeing about half the g/sec that I should through the RPM range. Re-ordered another MAF and installed it. Re-logged and everything looked comparable to some old logs when the car was running strong. Just my luck to get a faulty new part. Car continued to misfire but now I was getting a flashing CEL and a consistent random/multiple misfire code along with Cylinder 4 misfire code. Replaced the 4 coil packs on bank 1 and the car is running great now.
It seems that both the MAF and coils were the issue but until a good MAF was installed the car wasn’t going to flash the CEL.
I won’t cheer yet or hold my breath, but will say way to go and that I’m pulling for you! Car issues are a fucking nightmare. Especially when a dealer is the confused one throwing your money at it hoping it fixes it. Great to have some smart folks on here to walk you through it.
no luck on audizoo? lol
Thanks man. After a fiasco at my local dealer 7 years ago with my A4 and a warranty repair I decided I’d never bring my car to a dealer again. The only other person that touches my car is my indy mechanic who is wicked bright and specializes in Audi/vw’s. When this problem stumped him I thought I was fucked. I even went and looked at a couple V8 S5’s. I’m glad the dealer didn’t have exactly what I was looking for or I probably would have pulled the trigger on it.
No reason to post on the zoo when the brightest guys are on here in a smaller community.
Terrific that you’ve been able to get this fixed. Looks like my filter idea wasn’t much help. You’re right though. Audizine has lost their strong members to this site. I’d suppose it’s because people ars sick of the trolls. I’d just suggest when you see someone on Audizine looking for help point them over here.
The filter wasn’t a bad suggestion at all. So many people overlook basic maintenance items when trying to identify a problem. I’m more of a lurker and reader than a poster on either forum but AZ has really gone downhill in the last couple years. Now that the platform is getting older and these cars are getting into the hands of more teenagers and morons the threads and info posted is mostly garbage.
