aftermarket aero for B8

Holy wide tires, what size are those?

345/35/18 on 18x12et5

Do you have any pics of the underside of the hood and the mounting point inside?

I’d love to ditch the sunroof too, I’m sure it’d be an easy 50 lbs, but per Autocross rules you can only do that if the model was also available without one. Effectively you’d have to do a conversion between options. If anyone knows if any foreign-Spec cars came without a sunroof I’d love to know that!

Love the wing!

I’ll be getting a wing in the spring. Going to do the Ciro Design wing. It’s THE wing for Street Modified class, maximizing the allowable wing surface area and running a 52° AOA! 500lbs of downforce at 80mph lol! Top Autocross speed is usually 60-70 in most courses with most corners being between 25-50mph, sit he wing should be good for a couple hundred pounds in most corners. I have to stay inside the bodywork in width (going to have to get an interp on that one with the state of the car…) and can go 6” above the highest point on the roof.

Here’s the wing:

I can take some photos of the hood pins from underneath next month for you, and post back here. Car is in storage and I probably won’t see it until then.

Does a 52deg angle of attack result in a stall? I thought the max was around 20deg. I think I’m at 17.5 with the gurney flap. I understand how having the second foil provides for additional downforce, as you picture above on the GT-R.

My top track speeds at Thunderhill, Laguna and Sonoma are about 129 MPH. They’re not quite as fast as Watkins Glen, VIR, Road Atlanta, etc. And nothing like what a GT3 wing is built for - long and straight ring runs where top speed is critical to best lap time.

Yep the AOA on the first element is only 8-10°. The second element pretty much just smashes into all the air like your hand out the window on the highway.

At max AOA, the wing has 600lbs I’d drag at 120mph lol. It’s definitely only for Autocross with those angles.

Of drag*****

Hey WestWest. I just grabbed the Seibon Carbon hood. You had a different one right? You had mentioned a 33 lb weight savings. I’m interested in what the weight of your OEM hood was an what the weight of the CF hood was. I have a B8.5 and mine was:

OEM 48.0 lbs
Seibon 25.4 lbs

Savings of only 22.6 lbs. I’m wondering if my CF hood is heavier or if the B8 hood is heavier?

I was estimating. Thanks for posting that data. I’m not sure what my new hood weighs. I could believe it’s under 20 pounds, with the latches putting it back over 20.

I do think the way it flexes like a sail under high airflow is cool. I can see it in some of the track photos. Good for downforce!

I’m probably going to dial back the wing from 16deg to 11deg. My top speed is being limited and it’s hurting my overall lap time. I have way more grip than is necessary in turns, for the tire I’m running.

Dialed the wing back from 15.9deg to 9.4deg. Note that under 100 pound wing load with the trunk hunkered down, this levels out to 7.4deg.

The above figure was inclusive of the gurney flap. The true “angle of attack” is 3 degrees lower than that. So I went form about 12deg parked (10deg under load), to about 6.5 deg (4.5 under load). I should get about 45% less downforce and pick it up in top speed.

After

About 5.7 degrees without counting the gurney flap.

Indeed, the GT4 factory settings have this range as well. I do believe the trunk on the S4 compresses a lot more at speed than the GT4 decklid, which was built to take downforce.
