aftermarket seats for motorsports

West, are those SPG or pole position?
FWIW pole position is DD friendly, SPG is not. SPG is much more serious and track focused.

Pole position is still a 1 piece bucket (FRP I believe), but the side and thigh bolsters are not as dramatic, making ingress and egress easier. This seat was actually used by a number of OEM’s, including Honda on the NSX type R.

They are SPA which has a higher side bolster than SPG. PP is a non starter because it only does a 4 point harness.

Should I pull the rear door panels and speakers? No one needs to roll them down or open them up from the inside.

This is what it would look like:

Is there any sort of safety inspection in Cali? If not then go nuts.

If you don’t care about road/wind noise then go for it. There is a horrible amount of noise usually from an un-carded unsealed door. I’d at least consider sealing it back up with something (metal sheet and sealant?). I’m sure you could get something snipped and bent to fit that won’t weigh much.

And it starts… First the rear doors… Front door panels… Center console…dash… Race car.

LOL Thats always how it starts. small then before you know it…

This is so true. I personally would agree 100% with jspazz. The weight reduction isnt enough to off set performance or the unplesent noise that it would add.

Stripping out the car to save even a few lbs can make sense when your chaseing those perfict times. but its just not worth it. If the car has a good balance now and you want a little more maybe look into the stacked pulleys. That seems to help give a nice gain for the money

I don’t think I can do it - rip anything out. It’s nice now. I forget when I don’t use the car for a while.

I ordered the facelift B8 flat bottom steering wheel from Eurorprice, with the red stitch, S4 badge, no paddles. It’s legitimately difficult to get in and out of the car with fixed back seats on high bolsters. The flat bottom wheel will help a lot with getting legs in/out without rubbing on the wheel. I’ve found myself either sliding the seat back or loosening the steering column.

Your seats are amazing! Where did you find a used one?

Hey West,

Where did you get the Recaro seat brackets and sliders, and do you have the p/n?
Curious too - were the seats centered with the steering wheel or off to one side? I know that often times with aftermarket brackets, they aren’t necessarily aligned like the OEM seating.

I would contact Griffin Motorwerke in Berkeley, CA. They are a giant Recaro dealer and an Audi/VW/Porsche specialty motorsports shop. They’ve done more custom Recaro installs than anyone in that domain. Clearly since they’ve done my car, they can send you a complete kit. The driver seat lined up perfectly with no modification (I think better than OEM, but that’s because my waist is small and I probably sat in the OEM seat off center close to the shift knob). The passenger seat required some custom work on the floor adapter so the seat would not hit the door.

They were even able to help the poor guy who bought my OEM seats and hacked them into a Jetta. And man did he need help.

I think the total parts list is: seat; steel rails in black; seat slider; floor adapter; miscellaneous wiring; airbag resistors.

Good stuff west.

As for your old seats. You know something is off when the seats in the car are worth more then the car it self. Id like to see how they put the S4 seats in a jetta. Didnt your OEM seats even say S4 on them or just recaro

They say s4. Also they are made by magna

That saying S4 would be odd. Magna interesting. I didnt know that.

This should allow me to get in/out without moving the seat or tilting the wheel. Those recaro’s have a really high bolster.

That looks great. Is that a plug and play thing. I thought the new S4 had a flat bottom wheel. I guess not.

The 2010-2012 did not have flat bottom. Supposedly this has an Audi OEM airbag which is not Takata thankfully. Everything works except the Nav button, because I don’t have nav.

The new B9 and Porsche GT wheel is awesome.

waitwaitwaitwait we can run that porsche wheel with an audi airbag?
It is missing the buttons for the MMI, so it would probably throw an error, no?
