I liked having air on my jetta but I found major drawbacks (aside from the fact that the struts I had were absolute garbage and dangerous to the point that they were bent and one actually broke)
Airlift is a good company and make a solid product. The accuair e-level management thing is also quite good.
For everyday driving its great but constantly going up and down I have my doubts about that accuracy of a dialled in setting being maintained.
The biggest downside for me was listening to the compressors and the final cost. I hated the sound with a passion, there were loud since they aren’t hidden outside and covered like in OEM applications. The other thing is that some of these systems can fail randomly (fuse/sensor/pump etc) and that can of course leave you stranded and the cost was stupid when you finally take everything into account.
What I really wonder about is that they don’t say WHAT coil over system they were comparing their air setup to. They also could require a high PSI that could make that spring rate much higher than a set of cheap coil overs. They also don’t mention that in many cases you have to remove the front sway bar entirely to “go low” as it generally gets in the way and that throws the entire driving dynamic out the window.
I think they should be comparing their suspension to the absolute top of the market in terms of coil overs simply put because an air system can run between $5-10000 depending on whether or not you do the install yourself or at a shop. Also good luck finding a shop willing to take up a hoist for an install that always has a lot of trial and error.
Friends of mine built that white Allroad on Air and they put in close to 80 hours to get it done properly and my jetta probably took around the same amount of time especially if you want a clean install.
We have bagged about 30-35 cars with AirLift systems alone and yes where they might not handle as well as a properly set up KW Clubsport or Moton, or Ohlin, they are just as good if not better at the whole handling thing as say a PSS9 or H&R.
If you are interested in a kit, let me know, I can beat anyones price. We are the Tri-State’s newest distributor but I have shipped worldwide. Also offer package deals with isntall if you purchase through me.
We are actually bagging this next just to prove a point. Its our shop drag STI, fully gutted car, makes about 650 whp on e85
im actually driving a 200hp bagged VW CC…its comfortable and good on gas ;D
Saki if you see how easy it is to make power on JDM cars you would understand. My main tech has a sti motor pulled in 45 minutes, completely torn apart another 45 minutes later and in 3-4 hours is back in the car with upgraded rods and pistons, ready to start. Its just not fair how simple it is. That doesnt include lunch and cigarette breaks lol.
yea dude, its simple because they break all the time lol…subaru had to make it easy. two techs on one wrx or sti, clutch job in 30 minutes. FRS/BRZ are even easier lol
getting some new goodies for it soon so ill hold off, its an otherwise stock CC, candy white, dsg, boring as fuck. operation spice up its life starts soon
That STI is gorgeous… I miss my '11 STI. Had it protuned to 295whp/330wtq with only an accessport, intake, downpipe, catback, and EBCS… all on 93. That thing PULLED down low. I already had plans for an upgraded block, injectors and turbo but that wouldn’t of made a practical daily. If I had a second car for a daily I would have kept it but I wouldn’t mind going back that route in the future…
