Aluthman's Intro and Build thread

Well its fun and exciting to see this coming along. I know this section is a little on the quite side but that is actually a good thing when you have builds like this. Too much chatter and opinion posting can just get in the way. It will be interesting to see how it fairs against what you currently have. one of the killers on the turbo projects is getting the wrong turbo on the car. The twin scroll sounds like it allowes you to run a bigger turbo with a little less draw back

I have no idea what the exact differences are but if the new turbo is that much bigger then you would expect a little lag. but if your getting double digit boost at 3k that isnt all that bad

Small update: I crashed the car and the insurance company totaled it.

So I bought another B7 and bought my wrecked car back from State Farm to combine them into a super B7 lol.

Old car:

The EFR build will continue and the built motor will be swapped to the new car. I just sent the manifold and turbo exhaust housing to Swain Tech to get White Lightning coated. It should look good in the engine bay of a white car, all the while keeping underhood temps down.

Looks much better after swapping the wheels.

The new white looks really nice. Sucks about the crash but it didnt look too bad. I assume you were ok.

Also for me. This definitly says something about your comitment to the 2.0t platform. The crash would have been a good opertunity to move on and no one would have blamed you. To see your sticking with the 2.0 is nice to see.

Nice!

I had too much time and money into the old one to just drop the platform altogether. I also have the EFR and manifold that were ready to go on. I considered an avant, but none of the ones I found checked all the right boxes. To be fair, this one didn’t either because I wanted a black interior. That will be corrected by doing an interior swap with the old car since I have to move all the stereo and meth wiring anyway.

Looking forward to that efr! Nice to know you stuck with it

x2

Things are happening. I should have the engine in in a couple days once the new motor mounts arrive. Then comes downpipe and charge pipe fabrication.

The attention to detail looks great. Looks like a very well built set up.

Quick question. were you able to pull the motor and not have to open the AC system… It looks like the entire AC system just was able to move out of the way. So no need to re fill the system with a motor pull

You are 100% correct. You just drop the evaporator from the core support, unbolt and disconnect the wiring from the compressor and swing the whole shebang off to the passenger side and out of the way.

I decided to take a day off of work to work on the car. Exhaust is now complete (until I decide to redo the Y-pipe).

Currently ongoing projects are the headlights (in pieces in my basement awaiting a part) and the refinishing of the trunk and front lip spoilers. They will be getting painted black, but I haven’t yet decided on gloss or satin.

Turbosmart dual port actuator required some chopping and welding to get it to fit, but it’s on.

All lines finished and covered with fire sleeve.

Coil harness moved out of the danger zone. I’ll redo the heat wrap with the snap kind down the road but this should work for now.

Are you sticking with maestro again for tuning?

Nope, it was a good run but I wasn’t paying another $500 to use Maestro on the new car. I’m going with doTuning for the new setup.

Oh, gotcha! Hope that works out!

Flashing the base file.

Woot!

Nice! Now let’s see it spooool!!!

Took it out on the highway today to see how it behaves. Still on the base file, but I’m getting 24 psi at 3k rpm in 6th. Not quite as fast in the lower gears, but I think that it’s safe to say that I gave up ZERO spool coming from the K0R. The response of this turbo is ridiculous for its size.
