I’ll fish every now and then. Definitely enjoy saltwater more than fresh. My family actually has a fishing boat down in Florida. I haven’t been in a while but my dad and brother will go pretty often. They are actually down there right now, 50 mi out in the Gulf. A good day out there is loads of fun; plenty of tuna, barracuda, grouper, and the occasional shark.
I went out deep on a charter in Hawaii once. Never had been sea sick in my life but I got pretty sick out there. We were riding 15ft swells for most of the day. Caught a bunch of Mahi Mahi but no Swordfish unfortunately. The rigs they had us running were pretty serious. We were trolling while running at about 20 knots and crashing over some massive waves haha.
We caught one long ago. Its air bladder inflated as soon as it got to the surface and he started floating on his side. Had to deflate it like a balloon so the big guy could swim away.
Never been salt water fishing. I’d like to do it one time just for the heck of it though. I’m actually heading down to Jacksonville in July with 16 guys for a golf trip at Hammock Beach and then TPC, should be fun.
I saw a grouper that was about 5 feet long while diving in Bahamas a few years ago. Big slow looking thing. Till it beat it’s tail once and was INSTANTLY 20 feet away from me. Pretty awesome. I’ve seen goliath groupers online that are up to 1000 lbs. There’s one great video that gives you perspective of the size where a guy is catching a 4 foot long shark and gets it beside the boat only to have a MASSIVE grouper come out of nowhere and GULP it down. IT’s nuts.
Deep sea salt water fishing over here. Trolling mostly. Kwajalein has great fishing waters. I try to get out at least 3 times a month with my friends searching for those bird piles. Marlin, Mahi, Dogtooth, Yellowfin, Ono, Aku, and some predator fish like Grouper or Snapper. We usually give those to the Marshallese because of the Ciguatera fears…They have an immunity built up.
Caught a couole of fish while golfing tonight. There’s a river through the course and it was dead quiet so I brought my little rod.
I have a spincast reel on an icefishing rod that I put in my golf bag. Just had a float and about 2 feet of drag, and little jig with a fake grub with a tail on. Caught a medium sized rainbow trout and an 8 or 9 inch little sucker fish (I think). Good night! So funny when people see me fishing on the course.
Some of the ponds on various courses are full of fish. Makes waiting on the course fun.
Then on one cast the reel caught and it only went out 10 feet. So I was reeling it back in to recast and a f rigging PIKE hit the lure (jig with a soft plastic grub with a tail on it)
Shocked me pretty good. He will get big eventually… Lots of bass in there for him to eat. He was about two feet long. Good thing I had pliers… Didn’t want to fuck with his teeth!
Haha, that’s wild. I’ve caught some pike before, it’s crazy how prehistoric they are. That’s also some pretty darn big bass for a golf course lake. Quite impressive.
