Angler thread. Any fishermen here?

The pike are like sharks in the big lakes up here. 4-5 feet long are pretty normal to find with huge heads full of teeth. Muskies are similar. You need a whole new world of fishing gear to fish them.

Google huge pike, or huge muskie and you’ll probably be looking at a Canadian guy holding a fish so big and long it is folding up into a w from where he’s holding it.

Yea I caught some up in Alaska before. We didn’t catch any monsters (~3-4ft mostly), but they were still huge fish. They weren’t too good of a fight though given their size. We were up there trout and salmon fishing. I’d love to get back up there, but it’ll probably be a while before it’s a priority again.

That’s awesome! I have been eyeballing my local country club recently lol.

I recently went bass fishing with my brother when I visited him in Kansas. lol neither of us eat freshwater fish though. Back in Malaysia, we went fishing a few times. It was hand fishing though (coral fish). So fishing line, a spool and no rod. We’d catch Grouper, Red Snapper, and parrot fish (all good eating).

anyone been fishing lately? I feel like I need a bass boat. Nowhere to put the thing though.

Here’s a few of the interesting fish I’ve caught lately.

Couple of largemouth bass last night. 2-3 lbs.

Here’s a 27" pike in the same small lake. Lost a lure to another pike. Their teeth just go through line like it’s nothing. Need a 30lb fluoro leader to stand a chance.

Caught a boatload of smallies on lake muskoka a while back in the summer. Fun fish. No big uns. Lots of 2-3 lbers.

Caught a hefty musky 2 weeks ago. First one I’ve ever caught. Kind of a massive, fighty member of the pike family. They’re revered up here. Referred to as the fish of 10,000 casts. This was literally the first time I’d ever fished for one, and I caught this one 5 minutes in, so I was lucky. A friend fishes the same Lake and has gone 3 years without catching one.

43" long, 17" girth. Something like 14 lbs depending what calculator you use (too heavy to weigh hanging). When she hit the lure, it sprained one of my fingers on the hand holding the reel. Wasn’t ready for it. They’re just a monster predator. The teeth are the size of those you’d find on a medium sized dog. Have to be careful holding them. The head is about the same size as mine. The lures we were using are 10-12" long.

she freaked out and I almost dropped her in the lake. Saved it (but slimed up my shirt a bit).

My youngest brother has started fishing lately. He goes pretty often with his friends and is trying to get my dad and me to join him (I’m VERY tempted).

He’s been hitting the river mouths trying to score some salmon. He sometimes stops by a river on his way home from class (college - ah, how nice to be a college student again). Though the last time he caught something decent, he left the cooler in his car that was a 3+ mile hike away (ah, teenagers).

But it’s good that he’s sticking with a good hobby.
