Any Updates on the Borg Warner EFR Turbos?

They’ve been out since 2011 and I know many guys were interested in them, but it seems that everything died off. The 6255 or 6258 looks like it could be an awesome option if you could fit it, but I haven’t heard of any of the builds that were supposed to utilize these. Anyone heard anything?

Great question. I remember people were quite hot for them, but haven’t heard much.

The smaller displacement motor guys seemed to embrace them more readily than the 2.7T guys. 1.8T A4 guys were talking about them and had installed them a year ago I thought.

Wasn’t Mike Hood one of those guys?

I would love to know more as well. I came back on the thought that these turbos might just be the magic stick. I love the GTs but not sure I can live with the lag.

I drove VASTs car with two BW S200 turbos on it and I was blown away with the spool for how much power they delivered. The car was also a 3L, but they had two 2.7s and a 2.8 being built with similar turbos, not quite as large. The problem was as already mentioned making them fit, the modifications to the car were permanent so it’s something to keep in mind.

I wouldn’t mention FATs as a measure of performance, but I was with Frank logging when we did this and on a straight part of the highway in Michigan we did a 2.34 with the two of us at 24psi… The turbos are capable of high boost but for reliability sake of other components, it didn’t make sense to go faster.

There are a handful of cars they did builds for that weren’t public with these turbos and similar ones. Not all of them require frame rail notching and re-working though, so it’s possible!

More info abou the wheel specs ?

Hey guys, a friend linked me to this thread so I wanted to provide some info. The EFR’s were released and immediately generated a lot of interest, but supply was not ready for prime time. we got frustrated, people wanting turbos got frustrated, Borg Warner got frustrated… but the light at the end of the tunnel is coming fast
and it’s not a train
