Anyone else see this article? Re: Carbon Buildup

Looks pretty familiar!!

But I doubt the ‘Italian tune up’ would have a beneficial effect on our cars. More likely it would serve to bake on the oil even more!

Sorry, I’ve stuffed up the link, somehow. Maybe an admin can edit post #1

What a bunch of dummies

No effect. Zero.

Exactly. It is funny to see these popular automotive websites post these detailed articles, when it is clear they have no idea what they are talking about.

Someone posted the same link on Audiworld in the C6 section a week ago, and this was my reply…

[i][b]Carbon buildup with the S6, and every other Audi FSI car of the same era, is a known issue which is very well documented on many forums.

The Jalopnik article makes the mistake of implying that you can avoid carbon buildup with a regular “italian tuneup”, which is false.

Despite the many internet fixes, there is no known ‘cure’ for avoiding carbon buildup on these engines. Newer engines implemented a different design that allows cleaning of the back of the valves. This is not available for retrofit on older Audis.

We are hoping that adding a more free flowing exhaust will help with the carbon buildup on my car, but we wont know until a have everything complete and then complete testing over several years.

On the v10 S6, the before and after carbon clean is good for up to 50+ HP at the wheels

If you buy any of these FSI cars, you will simply have to budget for a regular carbon clean. And just be happy that is all you have to do. On the BMW M5 the dealer fix for the carbon buildup issues that plagued those cars is quoted at $5000-$8000! We get off easy

Mine is getting carbon cleaning today, can’t waittoget it back and feel the difference.

Cool!

Make sure you report back with the results. I think the biggest difference is usually in the top end.

A couple pics from the shop.

Not the absolute worst that I have seen, but definitely in need of a clean.

Haha, almost verbatim what I told my mechanic. Can’t wait to drive her, I’m still a state away, but headed home in a bit!

It’s funny I didn’t notice shit. Mine looked like this…
