Anyone ever wrap their window trim black?

I was thinking of doing this however I ha E a feeling I will fins it frustrating and end up paying someone to do it instead.

Anyone done it? Anyone had it done professionally?

What was the cost?
What product was used?
Diy or pro?
Would you recommend diy or pro?
How long ago was it and how does it look now?

Thanks!

P. S. Saw this… Looks fucking awesome.

Electrical tape ftw

I had a pro do it and it came out great. I got gloss black vinyl and it really pops. I’ve had it for 1 1/2 abusive years and its still like day one.

I tried doing it DIY and it wasn’t looking too great. ended up taping the car up and painting it black, which came out better but still not great (didn’t put a top coat on it)

I think hiring a pro is best

The DIY method is a true pain, dealing with the curves and edges. I’d recommend a pro especially if your very anal about any flaws, which most would be with an RS4. I couldn’t get it perfect so I ripped it off and said fuck it.

Honestly I’d look into getting it painted professionally, I think you’ll get the best result and it will last.

I’ve seen people who paint it reference it chipping eventually and looking terrible.

The vinyl wrap guys seem happiest.

Wonder what a shop that wraps entire cars would charge for the window trim.

I’m planning on having this done by a local shop, not sure of costs, but I can’t imagine it’s a lot. Seems like it would be WAY TOO difficult to do it well on my own. I agree , it does look REALLY nice!

well they say teh B8 S4 trim is the hardest to wrap because it has a bunch of grooves on the inside when you open your doors. Shops charge $150-$300 to do the B8 S4 trim, it comes out real nice though because it is a hard chrome piece, its not soft rubber like the B8 A4. So when you wrap the S4’s trim it looks way nicer than the A4’s factory black rubber trim.

Ya some A4’s come with the rubber black trim and actually the Titanium package S4’s come with the same rubber black trim.

did you think about getting your mirrors done in matte grey/black?

This whole Ti package thing originated on the B7 RS4 I believe, and they would do the following

window trim black
front grille surround black
muffler tips dark grey
side mirror caps dark grey

My car has Ti package RS4 OEM wheels for summer, but I really want to either sell them and get a set of silver OEM wheels, or go black window trim and maybe grille trim surround. And maybe get my exhaust tips pcoated black. On the JHM catback that is.

not really because the brushed mirrors are what set teh S4 apart from A4’s and they go well witht eh brushed front and rear lip. A4 guys always paint their mirrors black.

If you go through my imageshack pictures you can see I had the rear valence and the front fog light grills painted in gloss black and they came out killer. They go very well with he gloss black window trim.

^^thats why I asked…I saw you did just about everything else. Figured you do the mirrors.

A4 guys do a lot of things to look like an S4/RS4. In fact I think I’ve seen more A4 guys with silver mirror conversions than dark conversions. The A4 comes with the mirrors in body colour. So does the new B8 Ti package ironically.

Ya body colored mirrors are lame. The brushed mirrors look very nice on the B8. They look more like the B6 S4 aluminum mirrors than the B7 S4 plastic mirrors. They would look good in a gunmetal type color on your car because your car is silver.

Here’s another look…this is on a B7 S4 25quattro. 65vette or something…not sure his exact username

I think Ti package Avus looks hot in the photos. But I prefer the standard RS4 trim + Avus in person.

I bought the trim tape to diy but I decided against trying to do it myself. The curves and angles look way to intimidating and I have feeling I just won’t be able to nail them correctly.

I think I might try plastidip route. If I take my time during prep, it should come out decent. If I don’t like it I can yank it. Less of a commitment.

What if a shop offers to do it for $150 all in?

I. E. A shop who does vinyl wraps on cars already

Do it.

Have they done an RS4 or S4 or A4 before? Did they tell you if they were gonna remove all or some of the pieces? Shops usually do it for $100-$200
