anyone tried different sizes on STD rims. 275/35/19?

So the stock 265/35/19 sized rubber must be a weird size, a branded tire Conti/Mich/Toyo etc in this size is about twice as much as the same tire in either a 255/35/19 or 275/35/19.

Has one run a set of a slightly wider or skinnier size? noting the profile makes them smaller and taller etc - would it mess with the ESP etc??

cheers

Yes you can run it. Back in the day they didn’t have 265/35/19 in the dws so I ran 275/35/19. Depending on the tire the width might be closer than you think maybe a few 1/10 of an inch but it may still feel a little loose. It was only 2/10 an inch larger than my conti3s at the time so I just did it.

Between the all season tire and slightly wider tire then spec I felt more sidewalk slop and looseness but overall grip was great. A lot of b7 rs4 and s6 guys have done it so yeah ur fine if your talking dollars and cents. Depending on how wide the tire and if your stock height you might have more rubbing lock to lock

I believe sixsixsix has been running 275/35/19 all season pilots and could chime in. He has even tracked with that setup and seems fine though.

I always though it would be cool to fit 285 all around on aftermarket wheels of course but honestly it’s more weight and grip would be similar to 265/275.

255 would work as well you may lose some rim coveRage but remember not all tires are the same width. Summers tend to run wider in certain brands

I’m running 255/35/19 on a 19x10 without issue. it’s a bit stretched, but on a 9in wide wheel it would be fine.

275/30/19 fits too if you don’t want a taller tire

Yeah I’ve been running 275/35/19 this entire time. For All-Seasons that seems to be what’s recommended. I have Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ on now and had Conti SportContacts I think before that. I should say in my ownership history thread somewhere, but I don’t remember what came before the Michelins. They performed perfectly on track and had my driving instructors point out how they couldn’t believe how well the tire did and how well the car stopped. I’ve also taken them on a winter driving event but of course, they were horrible there lol… It was like skating the entire time. Fun, but I need to go back with proper winter tires eventually.

Fantastic stuff guys and girls, yeah basically 265 branded tires are around $800 a piece here…275s are $350/400…
Many thanks!!

I’m running 265/35’s on 11" wheels to and even they’re stretched a bit. I’ll probably go to 275’s next set.

I never pay brick&mortar retail for tires… Running these because I’m a cheapass

How do you like hankook? I want to like these but I’m a pretty dedicated Michellin guy.

Whoa thats so cheap, cheapest thing I can get is around $300 per tire.

After a few S6 bills I had to go cheaper rubber so I put a set of these on

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Nankang/Noble-Sport-NS20.htm

We have them on the wifes WV GTI and they seemed fine as an all rounder. They are actually fine on the S6, dry grip is solid as, wet seems also good, torrential rain not bad, we dont get snow where I am.

But I have never had anything else really to compare as it had 4 different tyres on it when I bought it.

I always spend $$$ on wheel alignments, not just a tyre stores $50 job, I go to the best I can find as these Quattros CHEW when your alignment aint spot on. Hense my older posts about Toe adjustments/spec bushes etc.

I know Michs and conts are the recs and you would prob get 20% more life out of them - I just couldnt afford em at the time.

With the Conti SportContact 2s alone pushing over $300 a tire now (Detroit, MI: Used to be $215-225ish 6+ months ago) I don’t blame you. If it works for your situation, it works.

Maybe poke your head back in here 20-30k miles from now and re-review them for us, see how well they really hold up under the S6

I’ve run Achilles ATR Sport or ATR Sport 2 for years without issue or complaint. CHEAPPPPP!

Also had good luck with Kenda Kaisers (but they don’t make anything larger than 255 afaik)

I’ve had the naysayers on the tires, but Achilles is a sponsor for drift events ect… and honestly I’ve had zero issues and they have a 400 A tread wear rating. Have 15,000km on them and they are still at 9/32nds.

I’ve heard good things about ATR as well. Are those technically allseason, three season or summers?

technically “all season”. they have excellent traction in the rain and I’ve driven with them in the snow a few times without issue.

I’ve had 3 sets now and no complaints. I’ve had 255/35r20 ATR Sport when I had my 20in rotiforms, had 245/35r19 ATR Sport on some other 19" rotiforms on a B6 S4 and the current 255/35/19 ATR Sport 2 on the Ispiri wheels.

The ATR Sport 2 is better in rain and are quieter than the ATR Sport.

I’ve run the ATR Sport/Sport2’s and the NS1’s on both the Jetta Sportwagon and the Genesis Coupe - they’re quiet, work well in heavy rain and snow, but the compound really doesn’t like being cold. They get really hard when it’s below 15f or so. Still workable in the ice if you don’t clown around too much and have some decent tread left.

The 'kook V12’s are similar, but seemed really sensitive to chamber wear. They’re no better/worse than the achilles or nankangs honestly. V12’s do have the most grip in the dry, the ATR’s are a close second and the NS1’s seem to last the longest.

Honestly, I like the V12’s over the Conti’s not just for price, but they seemed to give better traction in the dry as well. I had a weekend back to back with both on the Genesis - 315/35’s on the rear and the V12’s had a much more predictable breakaway when driving at the limit. On the S6 obviously the rear doesn’t really break away, but I notice understeer a lot less with the V12’s than with the DWS’ I had on there before.

Buddy has the v12s on his B8 S4, really likes them too. Had lots of good things to say. Good to see someone else’s view.
