APR 1740 - Blown Engine

You can add my old S5 to the 1740 list, apparently a few thousand km after I sold it the motor let go… I was told it was piston rings, he replaced it with a second hand unit and then it let go again from what I hear.

Holy shit are you serious?

That’s a bullet dodged right there.

Just more evidence of what a few people have observed and known for a long time now…and what a few others have tried to deny and hide. Which is strange. What is the financial motivation for someone to pretend the Apr kit is not frying piston rings and killing engines?

If you own a car with the kit and this happens and you deny it, you’re either:

A) hoping Apr will take care of you. As we have seen that is not in the cards for regular customers

B) just embarrassed that this has happened to you and your car despite all the warnings, so you disappear

C) you’re financially compensated by APR in some way and are covering up for them

D) you’re financially beholden to Apr (dealer) and are burying the truth to protect them, and to protect your future sales

The honest people will share full information as whiteq has here. Hopefully more people go this route so people are aware of the facts rather than a skewed version of the facts to protect hidden interests.

He personally tuned my S5 on the dyno

Lol that’s not a glowing endorsment…

Whiteq can you share how the guy who bought the car dealt with the engine failures and what Apr said to him?

Did they mention how audirevolution.net was right?

I have not been in contact with the new owner as I believe he some how thinks I am at fault.

I had the 1320 on the car for years and it was perfect, the 1740, spat my cats out, burn out O2 sensors, fuel lines popping off, it as just an experience I am glad to be out of.

I went through 2 POS clutches from Eurocode, it was just a huge waste of money.

I believe the car is off the road, to me it must have been more severe than just piston rings. If that were the case why would you buy a whole engine rather than just repair the original one, it only had approx. 35,000km on it.

Eric had the car for approx. 2 weeks and did a mixture of dyno and road tunes and the car ran really well, I was just over it by then and wanted to buy a four door car. He was a great guy and spent a lot of time on the car trying to get it perfect.

The new owner is jnrdavo on various forums, he would have some stories to tell but is being VERY quiet about it all.

I would suspect APR or any of the major players in the audi game would essentially say, sorry, these things happen. It would be nice if they would willingly offer to compensate you if a motor or another major component blew during or shortly after a major mod, but that simply is not reality. Are there any documented instances of a tuner refunding or picking up tab after a blown motor or other major component? I haven’t heard many if any of those stories.

Agree, the risk is always seems to be on the person that is simply paying for a product that may or may not work.

It can be a frustrating risk/reward game. Would be nice though if the damage was clearly due to the work, tuning, or component for the companies we pay thousands of dollars to recognize and own up to mistakes and make things right. At least a little bit…lol! Aint happening though from my experiences.
