APR ECU/TCU tune review…

Yeah, that’s not good. It’s like it’s bouncing off of the rev limiter.

I’d be clearing that file and letting Apr sort it out. Going full bore like that…if it’s slipping engagement and not happening properly while turning big rpms, that could be a $4,000 clutch replacement. Not sure how confident I’d be in Apr coughing up for that after their recent problems. Sounds very uncomfortable. Any clutchey smell?

Also your car seems louder. Maybe it’s the different video angle.

Still went 11.86 while shifting like a grandma with bad arthritis so that is promising. My coke is definitely in jeopardy.

Still remains to be seen how others fare at the strip. There has been almost universal praise on AZ, but no one providing times yet that I’ve seen. No problems reported, other than a very disorganized software launch, where seemingly half the people don’t have tunes built for them. For the one’s with no tune, many of the shops don’t have the cables needed to grab an image of the production code, which is prerequisite for building the tune.

Apr still claims they went 11.59 or whatever in Alabama summer heat. But they strangely aren’t showing the entire time slip ??? Arin replied to me that they were seeing 60’ times on the order of 1.67, while the 60’ without LC was 1.9x on the same car, but again, no time slips shared.

We know from APR’s marketing material that there is the “A_max” mode for the drag strip, which as Ron said, is enabled by the LC function. I’m assuming this is the mode where the tune is not fully vetted. Which is where the 1/4 performance will show. I personally am not all that interested in “A_max” mode, but it would be nice to put down some good times.

Scott, Yep, that pretty much sums it up…

Ryan, Agreed… The logs show it pretty clearly… It’s hard to get a very accurate estimate based on the sample rate even in turbo/group by mode but I’d give an estimate of the shifts costing me 3-5 hundreths and the “lazy hangups” about 6-8 hundreths… So probably nearly .3-.4 in total ET, again just speculation but I know it’s costing me quite a bit…

Saki, Yeah little bummed as now the launch is back to being very good, the increased redline and new tune help a ton but now this… Part of testing so it is what it is… I’m confident APR will sort it out and work to make it right as they’ve went above and beyond so far… Honestly, if it breaks I wouldn’t hit up APR I’d let them know and see what they say but I’d expect to pay out of pocket… I’ve been modding stuff for ages and it’s just part of the territory… I have my final Audi Care appointment Friday for the 45K service, with 9,300 miles on the car, so I told them I wanted the tranny checked over and they know it and the car are tuned… Also, they didn’t do the fluid change on the 35K service so they are doing that on Friday… Took the TTRS in for the 15K today and got an allroad, pretty nice car!

Car sounds about the same so it’s either another car or the angle…

Yeah, there is a lot of ET on the table IMO but until it all falls into place I owe you a cherry coke… I got until the end of season so this will drag out as I’m doubtful to get any good DA days again until the falll…

Mike, Yeah everyone on vendorzine just loves that they can do 6K launches they have no clue if it makes the car faster, honestly it’s pretty comical the lack of knowledge and ability to test things… I will say that I am pretty sure my issues are related to just the 2010 cars but time will tell… There was a dude from Belarus with a 2010 who posted a video and I think he is having similar issues… It’s in the launch thread but I linked below… Also, after spending about an hour on logs last night I just don’t see how LC can make the car faster, it dumps roughly 65% of the boost during activation and even a good portion after the car is launched and the timing isn’t that much higher compared to how I launch w/o LC. I make immediate boost with no dump the instant I go WOT and the timing is fairly the same, now this could be a 2010 thing but I know they have to dump boost because there is no way the car can handle the tq from that blower sitting there at 6K before launching… So they throw a little more timing at it and boost comes on full late in first or in some casees even 2nd. Again, speaking just of my car since that’s all I have reviewed… What I’d like to see is some GIAC 2010 LC cars and how they perform and logs look… I know Jeff has cut his best 60 with LC but it’s fairly close but he doesn’t share logs with me anymore ;D He’s also not a 2010 car…

Yeah, I’m not 100% sold on AMAX mode but I think if it’s working right it will be faster, but I think most of the vendorzine crowd will be bummed they lose the fart noise… LOL

there is a video on AZ were somebody posted the same issues you saw with your run, bogging and slipping when accelerating hard. its under the APR DSG Tune thread

When did APR run 11.59 in ‘alabama summer heat’? If they were at the strip recently , I didn’t think April or May counted as summer.

That’s what they said. DA of 2500 or something.

here is the link I saw somewhere on AZ

[QUOTE=Arin@APR;10757662]We’re listening. Feedback is important to us!

From what I’m gathering, only the 2010’s (non native LC cars - IE, Gen 1) are hitting a limiter after LC. We can make adjustments. We’re on it.

Other than that (gen 1.5, gen 2), no complaints?

Looks like they’re on top of it… Bummer it wasn’t flawless at release, makes me a bit uncomfortable since I’m being flashed in an hour or so… Hopefully it doesnt grenade my poor old dsg :-\

Do any of you know if that time Arin posted was with a TVS1320?

I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine if you only enable “A_max” mode at the strip. If you make a habit of running LC all the time and accelerating to 100 MPH, then maybe it’ll be an issue

Arin already said they are doing something “special” on the shifting to prevent acceleration dips when in “a_max” mode. Didn’t explicitly say it, but it’s pretty clear they are slipping the clutches.

You able to go to Milan next wed? We could spend some time logging and then looking at the data together in between runs. I’ll be up near Romeo on Monday for a memorial day party. Might be able to step out and do some logging on the street if you want?

He’s not been very transparent about it, but yea, it was on a DSG test car…so must have been their 2014 or white B8. So assumption is 1320. I thought the only car that had the 1740 was Arin’s (6MT)? And I thought they stopped the stg 3 development…

I was just curious because I don’t follow the B8 as closely. 11.59 in 2500 ft DA is surprising

Keep in mind I could be muddying the facts, but I believe that’s what I read. Like said before, it’s strange how this release has no time slips posted. While the S3/Golf R threads are pretty much centered on this.

2800 vs. 0 feet would mean a delta of about 30-40 whp. I’d be surprised if they went 11.59 on a 1320 in those conditions without 200lbs of weight removal (this is APR so they may have riced it up. Again). Who knows. That’s basically an 11.3X time in 0 DA

I posted this on AZ:
Updated tune with no tcu upgrade, yet… So far car runs great smoother more power and she puts back in the seat at triple-digits. No hang ups with the shifting and I’m pretty sure it’s still adapting somewhat after about 100 or so miles it seems to be getting faster.
If I may add…don’t know when I’ll be able to track the car but I should be receiving delivery of my P-Box in by next week and I’ll do some testing given that I can find a quiet spot somewhere that’ll allow for some runs and me not getting arrested…lmao. Also, like Drop said earlier it seems that no one at AZ is or wants to post any kind of time slips. Don’t know what’s up with that…? I even went as far to tell them to get to the track and post their times so we can get a sample group but to no avail so far. Hopefully slips will start trickling in from different sources soon and we can all see if any improvements have been made to the TCU tune and we can all move forward.
I would so like to give KUDOS to Primetime for all that he contributes to AR and the S4 community. Cheers to all on here!

can’t find anything that indicates a date they made that pass but if it was the same evening he posted it on AZ -the DA for the day appears to have been as high as 1189 but dropped to the 300’s later that evening. It’s obviously a very good time but it would be nice to have more info to determine how good.

He said ‘a couple of weeks ago’ on instagram

Maybe Saturday May 2nd. If so, DA was around 1300-1400 feet at 3pm.

They didn’t have a private rental…they went to a cattle call test and tune. Must have been a weekend.

Interesting that he cropped out the 60’ and the date.

Pretty sure when I checked on drag times, it said his DA that night was around 900. Which isn’t bad at all. I think I asked him about it on IG to confirm that number, but he never answered.

Hey Ron, I think you should loan APR your car so they can get our 2010’s dialed in. Just a thought.
