APR has been sold to Mangrove Equity

I didn’t see the link Fast Eddie was referring to, but a Vortex moderator started a thread in the car lounge.

http://forums.fourtitude.com/showthread.php?7041662-APR-Michelin-Performance-From-The-Ground-Up

I was post number 2 originally. i said something like i hope this doesnt go south like VWR who you owe 165k. Plus AOA is sueing yada yada. Then i mentioned STASIS and how hopefully Mangrove equity can save the company so they dont end up like them.

Ive been showing this site/link to a bunch of Golf R buddies. They have been spreading the word as well. Couldve been thier influence.

for the record, I don’t think they pulled an insurance scam. I was just joking that it will force them to not have a money pit (supercar).

Although damn…2008-2009 R8 4.2 are still selling for $80,000+ up here for a high mileage copy. They were around $115,000 new I think. That means they’ve depreciated only 35,000 in 6 years…aka 500/month!

I believe R8’s are more like 150k new no?

The V10 R8s go for good money. Even the V8 R8s used sell for more then new.

I think the positive news is that APR is still obviously developing products and technology. The flashing is important and shows that they are still making advancement.

no

APR nutswinger!!!

A quick review of justin’s last 20 posts show that Arin@APR has hacked his account.

Lol… did you miss the part that other companies already had it over a month before APR released?

Lots of flak on the european tuning boards over APR’s statement.

At some point you really have to wonder who’s doing the innovation in the industry.

Funny how this story broke here, and has been buried on half a dozen other tuning company sites

The vortex has a thread (the op linked here and copied some of the info from here) that has survived because too many people saw it.

It’s like the forum administration on places like az have an alert whenever the word mangrove is posted and they race to delete the thread and give people an infraction for telling the truth.

Anyway it’s not the end of Apr. It’s the end of ambitious Apr maybe. And it’s the end of wasteful Apr maybe. But it’s not like someone is posting nudes of Apr raping a small cat… It’s just a story on ownership change. Not sure why it’s getting so aggressively deleted.

because it shows that apr isn’t the superpower that they want everyone to believe they are. No one wants to be branded as the next stasis

Bingo. Ownership, priorities, etc change.

Them taking only one car to COTA should probably be of some relevance. They’re down to 1 trailer and the trailer can at least hold 2 cars.

Looks like both the RS5 & RS7 may have already been sold.

No no. I think I just want to gauge how bad this really is. The answers to my questions will either help make the picture look more clear or more damming. We all know this thread is getting looked at all over the internet on multiple forums. This thread is definitely a goto thread for thousands of people and I’m sure thousands more before it’s done.

The flashing hype was a bad move. But we do know APR releases big stuff at there shows and conferences.

Did they release this now because they wanted to debut it st a show.

Over the past two years we know

APR is been quietly struggling but how bad is it. We know the in past two years they got a new tuner. It looks like he isn’t as good as the old tuner as now they seem to have issues passing readyniess. Other then that I don’t think there has been any issues. Have they.

APR came out with the RS4 supercharger upgrade
The R8 supercharger upgrade
Built a B8 S4 supercharger
I think I read they updated some B8 A4 ko4 tuning stuff
They made a kit for the TTRS that I guess did well
They started talking about building some 2.0t motors
They came out first I think with the S6 RS7 and S8 4.0t tunes
I don’t know if they have a dsg tune but they started making one
Then in there some newer car got switching abilities
And they now came out with the port flash of the me17

They seem to still be doing a lot of these things and doing them first. But I don’t see issues that would tell me the new stuff isn’t still APR of old. What am I missing.

Blown engines. Lots of them. Both customer and internal.

One of their recurring customer cars only ended up getting the APR engine build because his golf R stage 3 kit damaged a piston. After that they detuned all stage 3 Golf R kits (was running too close to the limit in the first place. Since then he’s had around 4 or 5 APR engines fail on him (all within 500 miles or right out of their driveway). GRD has been waiting to get their RS4 back from APR because it also has a blown engine (more than one from what I’ve been told). Then there’s a plethora of internal cars but apparently it’s fine to blow those ;).

TTRS kit hasn’t really worked out well. Seems like the only cars that run well are ones owned by distributors that don’t talk about things and get special files, or buddies of APR that get special files and have built motors. Haven’t actually seen an actual customer that’s happy with the kit and on a retail tune.

Building 2.0t motors? Doubt it. They hired an engine builder but it seems as if he just runs the CNC for engineering projects instead.

4.0t, dsg, & MED17 port flash . . . sure they can claim ownership for those?

Dave

Wow ok let me firmly stand corrected then.

So do we know that they blew up the GRD motor or is the car just at APR. There was the one member who had the APR stage 3 that needed a replacement motor but I think there were other people getting involved with install issues.

When you say internal cars were they the APR RS4 that they own and were testing with.

I didn’t know anything about the goulf motors. Were all these blown motors in the past two or three years or are some of these issues older.

The flashing stuff I don’t know what you mean by ownership. Don’t they have a large staff of just engineers working on this stuff. I thought APRs bread and butter was really tuning and technology advances.

I think I remember APR being the first to release a tune for every 4.0t car available. And sure the DSG stuff isn’t new but I think only GIAC really has it where they are actually tuning cars.

The me17 I assume APR cracked like all the other systems before it.

I will admit I think it was last year I read about how the APR tuner didn’t know how much boost the RS4 stage 3 supercharger kit he was tuning was running. That was a big red flag for me that said this isn’t vintage APR. To me APR are the safe and technology advanced guys. Am I giving them to much benefit of the doubt here.

Sounds like they didn’t actually own an rs4…but used a dealer car. GRD.

He claimed he didn’t need to know and that boost was dependant on a bunch of variables etc so it wasn’t important. When we grilled them on it, Arin eventually posted showing 14.5 PSI max boost, at reasonably ‘normal’ density. We know that the kit at super cold ultra dense conditions (aka -2000 feet like we see in the northeast and Northwest in the winter) that could be more like 16+ PSI.

Interesting that the car they didn’t need to know the boost on has blown it’s motor (allegedly but it doesn’t look good) and the only other forum customer with an APR TVSr1740 kit ALSO blew it’s motor within a month of the kit going on (meem from quattroworld) .

Would be good to centralize this bad motor information since it seems to be all over this 10 page thread.

Has Eric Urness been fired?

Let’s get it started. Sounds like a perfect thread for AR.

I honestly didn’t expect to get any of the answers I got. I think I will just stop asking anymore questions.
