Just looked… I have “E” clutches… Other dsg owners should post…

Arin, do you know the differences between the S6 and S4 DL501 transmissions?

Interested. Please keep the information flowing

I would love to know the same considering audi blames the tune for failure when they just issued a tsb blaming the additives in the ATF for damaging the mechatronics.

That video is bonkers! Keep up the great work on the development front! I would be early in line for this if I didn’t fall in love with a car that has no transmission yesterday after a test drive. ;D

Will definitely grab the clutchpack version the next time i’m in the car for help with data!

They appear to have the same clutches as the S4. The only transmission with different clutches is the RS5, and it’s only a revision number different.

Same casing and internals? In other words the only thing that differentiates the two is gearing.

Interesting stuff about the various DSG boxes…

In other news the equivalent thread on AZ degenerated into a “why isn’t it here yet?”-fest

Excellent point!! Another reason why AR is superior. The list goes on and on.

Interesting… Is the RS5 DSG fairing better to the supercharger vs the 3.0 V6T S4/S5?

For some reason, a stage III RS5 using a 5.5k launch control makes me want to bite my nails (afraid it’ll spit out bits of the transmission after a few).

The RS5 would not have the throttle body choke issue the S4 had, so probably fairing better, especially with the R8 taking a similar 2 intake setup.

The B8 S4 is it’s own animal, thus I imagine that’s causing the delay. Not a lot of crossover with the 2 NA cars.

Talking supercharger, not the clutches.

Do we have the R8 V10 Plus DSG clutch info in that list somewhere? Or the 4.0T applications in the S6/7? That would be interesting. Those will be the biggest OEM torque level applications. Around 400 (listed) for both, right?

It’s interesting that they don’t put the DSG on the S8 or RS7 and instead pair both up with a conventional slushbox

Interesting…or telling?

I think that’s a clear as hell signal - don’t be putting the DSG through 600 tq at the crank.

Yeah, I’m guessing this too (which is why the idea of a Stage III RS5 launching is a little scary to me). I’m not sure about VW/Audi dual clutch transmissions, but I’m wondering if there will be aftermarket clutch pack upgrades (kinda like what the Evo X and GTR guys have).

yeah, I wouldn’t worry too much.

That is what Audi is saying about the DSG however we can’t forget that they are saying ‘can’t use DSG on the RS6/7 cars because we have to warranty these things for 4 years’. Good rule of thumb is they’re going to have 50% of a buffer. If they put DSG on a ca that makes 400 tq, they’re likely good to 600 tq. Who knows really but it’s a rule of thumb.

You don’t see people modding cars to 200% or more without having loads of problems. i.e. the entire B5 S4 market. Once you take those things beyond 500 hp (250 hp stock) they start becoming dyno queens because guys are scared to drive them for fear of parts flying off lol.

The B8 came with about 360 tq. The RS4 about 325. The R8 V10 Plus around 380. That would spell 550-600 crank torque that should be pretty easy. 500 wtq or so. I don’t think any of these cars are going to hit that.

The S8 and Rs6? that’s another story. It won’t be a big deal to see 750-800 hp (crank) S8/RS6/RS7 once the Russians get their hands on them lol.

I’m honestly most excited to see the RS5 with the APR blower, that thing is gonna be disgusting with DSG and that V8… I’m sure if APR releases that and thinks it’s safe the S4 with DSG will be fine. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the RS5 hit 10’s in the 1/4 on pump.

I’ve said it from the beginning: 1740 RS4 v 1740 RS5 will be the most exciting passes at the track. It’s basically manual v DSG at that point (though I understand the 4.2 in the RS5 underwent some upgrades that are not in the RS4).

I agree that DSG will be fine for the B8 S4, but note Arin’s comments above about the different clutches between the S4 and RS5.

I actually just saw that… Hmm, wonder if that’ll be a difference we see in the Stage 3 development for the S4…

I personally think the RS4 has more in it also, I think the APR 1740 on the RS4 should perform similar to the JHM kit, factor in 93 octane and even better driving I think we might see a 10.9 out of the RS4 too… That RS5 with LC and an 8500RPM redline with the DSG is gonna be mental…

My honest opinion is that the RS4/RS5 will break the 130 mark and the S4 will be mid 120’s on pump high 120’s on race.

^^ Bottom line, Pete. The RS5 will be the champ of the 1740 group when all is said and done (R8 excluded lol).
