APR Presents the World Premiere of the Eaton TVS1740 Supercharger

I agree, while we wont be seeing the same gains as the stg3 kit I don’t think that it would cost the $8k or more that the APR kit would cost. I see it as similar to what JHM did to the V8’s. Extracting the last bit left in the motor, how exactly is above my head but I’m sure theres a way. So far all we have is bolts ons, nothing more involced that I know of.

Nitrous would be interesting. Meth will not. I imagine there’s maybe ET left on the table with tuning, but not much. You don’t find too many (or any) 4000 lb cars that go 11.6 @ 117. That’s extremely efficient. Using meth won’t make you faster, but I think it will keep you fast in the summer if that makes sense. It will help diminish the effect of shit density.

If you look around the world at all the cars using the 1320, and can find one that weighs 4000 lbs and is quicker than the primetimes/81bears/rynurz of the B8 world, I will be absolutely stunned. I don’t think there’s much left in the blower itself. You may see a better exhaust setup but with the supercharger it’s less about exhaust and more about the supercharger’s capability. Efficiency is great but CFM is CFM…you’re not going to get more out of that blower, so where’s the power going to come from? I mean meaninful power?

The low hanging fruit has been picked, but as is often the case on a forced induction platform, the motivation to get those last 25 hp and 2 tenths out of the rest of the system is limited. People will not bother with a new manifold and thousands of dollars in exhaust (headers) and other mods. They will just put that money into stage 3.

Similarly, on the new 4.2 cars you have enough FI options I don’t think you’ll see that B6/7 style all out parts revolution. You’re going to see the same thing that’s happening here with the B8. The JHM RS4 kit will put you at 450 whp for $8000. Is anyone going to bother with a redesigned manifold and $7000 in little bolt ons when they can just make that huge leap for modest money?

If I wanted a really fast RS4 today, I would go two ways

  1. piggies free DIY + JHM tune $600
  2. JHM stage 1 supercharger + piggies $8000

I guess I could spend thousands on every little NA mod there is…and I would still get absolutely RAPED by a JHM stage 1 car for similar money.

If I wanted a really fast B8 S4 today I would go two ways again

  1. APR stage 2 and nothing else $1800
  2. APR stage 3 and nothing else $??? (lots of guys claim $8000 or so…I think more like $10,000+ but let’s pretend $8000)

It’s tough to get motivated to go with a heavy duty modlist on the 1320 when you can just go 1740 if it’s indeed $8000.

Looking at it from that POV you’re right. From mine, I’ve got most everything but a clutch/ lwfw and heat exchanger set up. For me whatever APR releases would be a big ass chunk of change and likely no happening as I plan on buying a house in the next few years. But all those little mods are much easier to swallow. I know that they add up but mentally its easier to deal with. Not only that but to go with the 1740 you would still need all those supporting mods, I think you’ve touched on that before. if not you someone else
