APR releases their new "Ultra charger" and dual pulley setup

Figured someone would have posted over here by now… Here are the links in case you missed it… lol

I’m very happy with the setup and I think my results show the potential of the product. For those who may have missed my thread I’ve linked below… I’ve been running it since late last summer and have had no issues. I’ll be dynoing in the spring once HS gets their new AWD dyno up and running and will hit the strip again in early April. Arin’s done a nice job answering all the questions but I’m always willing to discuss from a users standpoint if anyone has questions.

this was your idea YEARS ago. Pretty cool to see it come to fruition.

Thanks Saki! I appreciate that… The APR guys have been great and really were/are a pleasure to work with!

Yep, I’ve been harping on APR for years to do a TB… Getting more air into a PD blower has always provided more gains than getting the air out! Shit I gave Issam money 5 years ago for one but he wasn’t able to get it to work… It will be interesting to see how long it takes others to get “theirs” out… It won’t be quick as people think since there are a TON of changes to both open and closed loop programming… My car started with the TB only but wasn’t driveable and barely idled if you want to call it that… lol

Just excited to see what times others run with it and what I can get out of it come April. APR has made changes since I last drove my car in Nov. so I’ll have a new ecu/tcu tune to test, IE the final production one…

Cool.

I saw somewhere that APR recommended against running catalysts (!!) with this configuration. Was that for race gas only, or do you know anything about that?

Yes, screw cats their worthless ;D

That thread really blew up on AZ

It never really came up while testing since they knew I had the 034 HFC’s… But yeah they’re recomending test pipes or headers, lots of folks have already had issues with their cats… I don’t think mine will be an issue given how little I drive the car but I’ll deal with them if they go. I’d probably just gut them or go to test pipes…
Yeah, that’s to be expected. You have all the different tuner camps chiming in on all the threads… I like how Arin has several threads using the tactics of EPL… lol Looking forward to more results rolling in especially mine once I hit the strip in April with the updated ECU/TCU tune… 125+ traps!!!
Ah, wasn’t aware that others had run into cat problems…

Do you know whether the recommendation applies only if you’re running race gas, or to all applications of the “Ultracharger” mod regardless of fuel being used?
I think they’re recomending for regardless but not 100%… Probably somewhat a liability thing so when someone kills a cat they start having multiple “UC kills cats” threads… lol Again, not positive just my opinion…

So according to this dyno the new throttle body gains you about 5% power, or about 20 whp vs the maxed out stage 2 dual pulley car?

Will be interesting to see how it plays out in trap speeds

from Goodspeed in Arizona:
508 HP and 455 FT-LBS - Stage 2 Dual Pulley 91 Octane (NEW SOFTWARE)
536 HP and 468 FT-LBS - Stage 2+ Ultracharger 91 Octane
Maha Dyno.

also this is interesting.

cars don’t pick up 28 mph in the second half. They just don’t. Something’s weird about that number.
“The power delivery from Leo’s car and robs car are different, that’s where you decipher the trap speed.
Leo has a good ET because the first half of the track of flipping awesome, he is trapping 97 on the 1/8th, 122 1/4. That’s a 25 mph gain and usually normal, giac is looking good right now and I’m sure it’s going to get better.
Rons car is shining right now (for now) because of his trap, 95 1/8th and 123 1/4. That’s a 28 mph gain, which is really really good. I’m not sure if you understand what 3 mph is… that 4th gear is ripping.”
Also interesting that Loe is now to be referred to as Leo

Will be interesting to see other cars. Bet you guys all a coke that nobody else is picking up 28 mph in the second half.

Of course they’re all saying ‘it’s the gearing difference’ but it’s not. It’s just not.

The top 20 cars…nobody gains 27-28 mph in the second half other than primetime. Arin’s thread has links to all the slips.

Not sure if it’s the track’s equipment that’s either penalizing the 1/8 or doing something weird on the 1/4 but that data is weird.

What’s the quick summary here? A $1500 throttle body that will probably destroy the cats?

Some people are saying that you can pick up the throttle body for $200. Just saying.

https://www.performancebyie.com/oe-80mm-hemi-throttle-body-plug-and-play-for-1-8t-s4

someone I know bought a similar sized throttle body but there were electrical differences that made it not work. Size wise it was identical.

That ad says there needs to be a minor modification to the plug to make it work. wonder if that was the same thing the guy I heard about needed to do for his B8.

TB isn’t the challenge really… It’s the electronics to a lesser extent and to a larger extent tuning… Will see how long it takes the others to figure it out… Electronics will be quick to copy… So, tuning I guess…

It will be interesting to see the APR stage 2 guys stepping up to this and see the difference.

I messaged them and asked about that. They said that the plug is the same across most Audis and that the S4 that people have converted it to be used on was a B5 S4. Well that seems like a dead end, lol.

I saw on Facebook that a guy had his OEM cats fail and melt down (kind of) after having the Ultracharger from the day after it was released. No wonder APR is saying to get rid of the stock cats. I really want to see more people go to the dragstrip because the B8 S4s are so close to a 10 second pass in street trim and race gas.

tuning shouldn’t be hard, but considering companies like EPL have had 5 years and still can’t get a car to work properly…while being hailed as geniuses of custom tuning…anything’s possible.
