Are there anymore JHM mods coming for the 3.0?

this hypothetical discussion is a bit silly.

JHM will sell you NOTHING until they have installed this on keaton’s car, and driven it for a year at least, testing, revising etc. Since I didn’t hear his car whistling when I was there in December, that puts you out to at least 2015 before there is a possibility JHM will put this in a customer’s hands.

Just sit tight or look elsewhere if you want monster power from a 3.0. If you want some nice bolt on mods, JHM is seemingly the place to be.

Has anyone thought that perhaps building the motor isn’t as hard as you think? My local guy who has a track record of fast reliable racecars suggested that maybe all thats needed on the 3.0 is doing an ARP rod bolt kit. Just put the car in the air and pull the pan and swap em and run a charger. I mean sure, you may need more for a lot of boost but if your doing a stage 1 maybe thats all you need. I was also thinking maybe swapping manifolds and turbos from a 2.7 and then JHM makes up sort of a “you supply turboes and manis and we supply hardware and tune.” Type kit… ?

By all means, trust those NA motor pistons originally specced on a 180 hp car with boost. Let’s see how it goes. Must be easy right?

What’s the cost of trying it the easy/cheap way…? Motor, rod kit, engine pull/teardown/reinstall.

And if it goes horribly wrong…start over. Easy!

He thinks…
MAYBE
…because he has built track cars with records.
MAYBE that is all you need
MAYBE…

That is all I saw, not anything promising. JHM will do it right, if they even do it. Go try it out and report back…buy an extra motor before you do it though.

You can try that and only run a few PSI. But the cost of setting up a supercharger kit and getting it to run right with only a few pounds just isn’t worth it. Power-Per-Dollar ratio just isn’t there.

You guys should check out scaudi for some info on running FI on this engine. I had some posts on there inquiring about buying pieces of their kit and having a local shop do a custom tune. This was right before talking to JHM about starting a 3.0 program… I think the local shop steered me toward JHM as they were leery about the history of the pes kit.

Wow, that forum is a ghost town it looks like.

Haha yup, not too many people on it anymore. I had a bunch of pm’s when I logged in asking about JHM from last year haha. Some good historical info though. There’s a couple guys who went pretty far with their PES setups on the 2.8 v6.

Haha nice. Who was doing the tuning for them?

For the pes kits? I think the only stable ones from an OTS tune were from GIAC, but then they went their separate ways. Everything else was custom, usually using eurodyne.

Ohh gotcha!

Well I know that we were talking about getting the PES kit and making our own tune, he said with that setup with such low boost that rod bolts would be somewhat safe. Not trying to tell you guys that your going to slap turboes on there and go 15 PSI and be good to go on stock internals. I am not an idiot and dont really apreciate the shit talk. But do what you want.

On the otherhand, I know that I am not going to modify or dump money into my 3.0 unless someone reputable like JHM make a kit/tune. If they dont I will drop a V8 into it and set it up like an S4. Or I wont even bother and go back to the old 70’s Datsuns again.
