The 12.4 run was with 45psi in the tires and I spun like crazy! Never checked the pressures since I got the tires mounted so made that adjustment and ran pretty consistent the whole day… I know the car has a little more in it but I think the limitations are traction and the fear of blowing up the stock clutch so I tend to be a little delicate on the launch… However with that being said the stock clutch is now on around 65 launches (~25 at the track thus far and it’s been pretty solid… The 15.159 run I got a shift delay and as soon as I felt it I just let off and coasted and didn’t even waste my time hence the slow ass time. Lol. Figured it was worth posting though since it was one of my runs after all. Only weight reduction was the spare tire removed, everything else was full weight…

So overall I think it was a pretty successful day, Ryan’s record stands for a bit longer even though it was a nail-biter. But I’m pretty happy seeing it crack off an 11.620 with stock rotors, stock cats and stock downpipes. I’m pretty impressed, especially since Tsivas has only seen a 1/4 mile strip for two passes prior to today. We didn’t even check the tire pressure on the DSG LOL! Whatever it was it was working…

So .01 seconds away from the record for the DSG and I was able to break my own manual record which I’m pretty happy with  also I let Tyson know to peel that sticker off his windshield :stuck_out_tongue:

Car # 835 was the 6MT
Car #2835 was the DSG

This 8.5 makes me want to get to track so very badly. I can see an 11.5 for sure. If these were done on stock rotors and stockish wheels with the B8.5 gearing, a 1.62 60’ would most likely put my B8 in 11.5 territory, DA depending.

So that’s fastest manual now? Nice one. And the GIAC cars are most certainly now equal footing with the Apr cars. And primetime is now the 3rd fastest b8 S4…that sounds weird!

Get any other times from the RS5?

Pete/Tsivas, I’d like to say once again great job! Nice driving Pete just need a little harder launch but given stock clutch you’re doing awesome… No other 6-speed is close that I am aware of… Good vids as well, thanks for taking and sharing… Wish I could have been there would have loved to run your dad’s car… When I went 11.69 DA was 350ish so about 550-600 feet worse… I think it would’ve been a great race but 100% speculation obviously…

Jeff, No doubt your car would do well… I checked the local tracks and the earliest so far is March 30th and that’s Columbus… Thompson will most likely be April 12th but maybe the 5th… 42 may open in March but they haven’t posted yet… It’s a real shithole though… Pittsburgh is the 1st weekend in April and Norwalk is late April… Gonna have to go east to run now…

Saki, Yeah I guess I have the bronze medal now! lol Would have loved to race Pete’s dad’s car as mentioned above I bet I would have faired ok? I’ll do my best to move back up the list soon… I think I have a chance to get #1 back ;D

RS driver here… Only ran three times with the fastest being 12.8 @ 111 with no LC …

Car is completely stock with ~1800 miles, running 20’s / winters, and half tank. The two runs I used launch control I’d just sit there spinning four wheels.

With some better tires and a little prep, the car for sure has 12.2-4 in it.

Nice runs guys!

…girls cars…lol

AUTOCORRECT!

GIAC turned into girl on my Samsung Note. Sorry GIAC

Yeah, no launch control is tough. You can time it well and get a good launch out of it as primetime shows day in and day out. You can also lose a ton of time as Tsivas and yourself experienced yesterday.

Your MPH is solid at 111. As I said, that’s good for maybe a 12.3. Not sure what your tire pressures were at but sounds like 45 PSI or something if you spun winters. Of course on 20s your winters are probably pretty tight with tiny sidewalls.

600 feet of DA can definitely account for a tenth, so you’re probably neck and neck.

I think it’s most interesting how much you guys are squeezing out of the 1320. It’s fun to watch it slowly but surely squeeze everything out of it. I would like to see someone take an APR RS4 with teh old 1320 kit on it, and run some 100+ octane fuel and a tune for it. Not sure that’s possible now. APR wouldn’t want to write it because they’d just be cutting into the delta between their 1740 kit and the old kit. If someone has a 1320 kit and is thinking of upgrading, but they see someone else run 11.55 @ 120 on the 1320 kit on race fuel it may make them pause.

I wonder if there will be a next generation of modifications on the B8 S4 for the 1320 that will push it even further? JHM will surely build a suite of products similar to what they did with the B5/6/7. All the ‘little bits’…and then if they get into the tuning they have shown they can find power where others have not, so that may be interesting. Haven’t heard anyone else talk about parts development for the car though.

Nice times, too bad there is no launch control for the 6MT.
Just curious how you are launching your 6MT? do you just hold at the 2500 and just release, or rev up at the time of launch?

^^^don’t think he needs launch control. He’s cutting 1.7 60’ times on a stock clutch. Pretty excellent.

added the 2 best times

for people like me who cant launch well, it would be nice  Also why i was wondering what way he launches cause those 60’ times are great.

3000-4000 generally yields the sweet spot for a simple launch on an manual AWD Audi that makes decent torque (300+).

  1. All traction controls off
  2. clutch down
  3. 1st gear
  4. rev and HOLD at your selected RPMs. Start at 3000 for first launch
  5. in one swift motion, release the clutch COMPLETELY while mashing the throttle to the floor COMPLETELY

If you bog (i.e. start, then slow, then go) try increasing RPMs by 200 or so, then try again
If you spin too much, try lowering tire pressure a couple of PSI at a time, then try again
If you stall it, you are mickf29

An ideal launch will see you rocket ahead with minimal wheelspin. Should not be dramatic. Watch a GTR takeoff…seems unimpressive till you realise he travelled 60 feet in 1.6 seconds.

In my experience, the B8 S4 was pretty happy launching off 3500 or so RPMs. Depends on the surface though. Rough pavement might grip too much. Smoothe pavement might spin too easily. Prepped dragstrip, as much as everyone wants you to think more prep = better launches, can in fact just be a smoothe surface that your cold street tires spin on, so it’s tricky.

Awesome thanks!

FYI MS109 is 104 octane

Pete and Tsivas - Congrats on running such great times, and thnx for compiling all of this information. I bumped karma for both of you. Awesome way to kick off the track season.

the nomenclature always fools me. Not that it matters I guess. 100+ = race. Should just put race for anything over 100. Or put 100.

Yeah I like that, putting race makes it easier to search all race gas runs rather than searching individually.

I know it’s dumb lol why is MS109 104?! lol. Should be MS104. Hahaha

How do you get the b8s4 to hold at 3500? The car limits you to 2500?
