Audi B8.5 S5 3.0T GIAC stage 2 11.717@117.06mph (DA + 523 feet)

I think this is the newest world record?

-GIAC stage II V2 Race
-GIAC TCU
-AFE filter
-034 Throttle Body Boot
-Drilled hole in airbox

LC used (4000rpm)
Full weight (3/4 tank of gas, spare tire/jack, and also work clothes and work suitcase in trunk with laptop)
Fuel was my normal 93 octane + E85 mix, calculated octane is 97.1, ethanol content is E37.7% (E38)

DA was good, wind was low and the wind itself was a nice stiff cold one with a cold front approaching. Ran consistent 11.74@116.9x mph, one 11.717@117.06mph. I feel there is more in it as I didn’t get an opportunity for proper cool down between runs as I was always near the back of the staging lanes resulting in 195F oil temps by the time I ran.

R/T .790
60’ 1.681
330’ 4.865
1/8 7.516
MPH 93.54
1000 9.790
1/4 11.717
MPH 117.06

I’m so close to 11.69 I can almost taste it. More to come with better D/A.

Very nice! I’d say try some real race gas next time… I love that you keep chipping away and continue to go to the strip! I’m also jealous I can’t go now but this is perfect season for you folks down south… take the odds and ends out of the car and put some race gas in you may see 11.5x! Thanks for sharing!

Great stuff man, it’s good to see an S5 guy laying down some awesome times.

Get rid of that extra weight and you’ll pick up some time and MPH as well. You’re running about 80 lbs too heavy. Tank of gas weighs something like 100 lbs. Run your tank down as close to empty as you’re comfortable, and then put some proper race gas in. Get your work shit out of the car and just run it lean with no spare, but full interior of course. Keep at it!

I wonder if dropping air pressure down from 38psi may help with a harder launch as well? I dont have too many issues with wheelspin, but then again i use LC with the TCS in “sport” and not “off”

congrats well done, finally some awsome S5 times

might help it grab

are you hearing any tire spin when you go? It’s perfect when it basically spins the tiniest smidgen that way you know you’re not bogging, but you’re also not spinning and losing oomph

some tire scrubbing, but I think with the TCS in sport mode (instead of off) that it applies the brakes to prevent wheel spin. I’ll have to drop the pressure to 32psi like others and run with TCS off the next time to see if I can land a low 1.6.

Also FWIW, my front Dunlaps are around 3/32nd’s, rears are 5/32’s. Track is/was well-prepped (aside from a few 12.0 that I ran after a car dropped some fluids and the car quickly shifted into 2nd after detecting too much wheelspin).

I ran again this afternoon (test-n-tune again) after my saturday class. I ran against a C7 “Z51” vette, driver was pretty cool, it had a catback exhaust and a haltech intake, 7MT model. DA was approx + 1433 ft (temps close to 77-78F), I ran 11.75x@116.xx mph (don’t have the slip in front of me at the moment). I had a about a 1/3 tank of gas remaining (again with spare/jack and this time school books/laptop lol). The air/temp was hotter today than my Thursday evening run, so I was surprised that I was able to hit 11.7x. He ran 11.85 @ 115.xx mph on that run.

Will be going back Thursday, temps should hover in the low 60’s with DA’s similar to the last Thursday event. Last even for Jan and I will have to wait until February when the track opens again; should see lower temps here in FL. I’ll try to obtain 104 octane for those runs just to see if it makes a difference. Thanks again for everyone’s advice.

Nice time! I bet the vette driver enjoyed the race

These 3.0t s5s are mighty quick. Even though I love the rs5, it’s really hard top argue with performances like this with minimalish mods.

Just wait and the RS5s will be impressive. it just takes the right company to get a hold of one.

Another new record…post to follow

I’m starting to think you are a drag racer!

Agreed, and not to side track this thread, but which car do you think has more potential without force induction, the RS5 or v10 S6/S8? My guess is even though the s6/s8 have the edge in displacement they weigh 300-400 pounds more and are handicapped with an inferior transmission.

Then again the price difference between a used RS5 vs. used s6/s8 is at least 12-15k+ so you gotta factor that in for fun per dollar and the v10 exhaust note.

The OP already has another thread about where he ran a faster time so lets not worry about sidetracking this one.

The V10 S6/S8 have a lot more potential while still NA because they are so much more limited from the factory. The V10 cars are very detuned.

Now the RS5 will likely still be faster in an absolute comparison just because it is faster from the start. I see the RS5 doing 11s while still NA.

If the RS5s follow the RS4 used values then the RS5s will taper off around 40K for a little bit. The V10 cars have tanked value wise. Mods would influence this comparison though. If the RS5s are like the RS4s then they will not need different headers but they will need to be piggied as the V10 cars would need to at least be piggied or more ideally have different headers made. The rest of the exhaust, lightweight crank pulley, lightweight brake rotors, other little mods, and maintenance (carbon clean + plugs/filters/fluids + injectors rebuild) would not be worth worrying about price wise since they counter out. So I see a RS5 likely costing at least $15K more in the long run (initial purchase + mods + maintenance) than the V10 cars.
