Audi C6 S6 performance/longevity

With spring around the corner, I noticed my car blowing loud as hell and temps higher than normal. I have JHM intake spacer, oil separator heater, and light weight crank pulley on the way… and I want this car to last as long as it can.

The engine bay gets considerably warmer than most other cars with similar displacement and I’ve had several people comment on the amount of heat around the vehicle.

Has anyone removed just the secondary cars that have easy access? Or is there issues with that. Additionally, had any has success removing both sets of cats?

Any ideas or ways yall have been able to lower temps? Or improve the vehicle? Many of the threads are dated and haven’t been too much help, I would like to condense useful info here

The smart path is the JHM intake spacers as they help the first line of support. The throttle coolant bypass helps as well but not a big game changer.

From there pull the weather stripping and under hood heat attachment should you wish to take another step. Some don’t like to pull that down. I’ve never seen anything that has led me to keep it.

As for the cats. You can always remove them but it’s going to be a motor out situation. From there JHM can help with the adjustments for the removal. That adds another level of heat reduction. But with the big motor in the small space the overall heat is going to be more perhaps then most are used to.

Do you know if anyone has had issues just removing the secondaries? Can’t find any info anywhere

Would not suggest removing only secondary cats. Remove all 4 and JHM ecm tune after. You really need the JHM exhaust for all to be well for driveability and to actually let her breathe after cat removal. I see no benefit otherwise

I have the JHM ECU/TCU tune. I have an X pipe with straight through exhaust but plan on adding a set of resonators. The car seems to run pretty good as of now.

If there was a way to gut all cats without engine out I would do that… but I was wondering if there was any reason why not to remove the secondary cats and leave the primary.

You will run into fuel trim issues and the car won’t know how to compensate with just the aft cats removed. Rich/lean issues and such. Which could also increase coolant and all temps in the process… personally I would avoid… where are you located and what part of the country or what country per se

I’m in Texas

ID second that. You DO NOT want to remove just the secondary cats. It’s a 4 bank system so it’s hard to know if everyone knows that. It’s not two bank like almost every other motor. What’s the basic point I’m looking to make. If you’re going to do anything. Remove them all.

It is a motor out job. If you do pull the cats. You already have the JHM tune. So you don’t have to spend any more money. You can get more power and performance with better long term motor life. Just know when you ask JHM for a tune update. It’s best to say. you removed the cats but don’t directly ask them for a catless tune. With the EPA going after lots of companies it’s best just letting them know and then asking if they have a FULL sports exhaust tune.
