Audi diesel software version 2.0

VW/Audi/Porsche has to fix about 11 million cars which emit more CO2 and NOx than the law allows. Over the next few months we’ll learn what fixes are being installed on customer vehicles. We’ll also get to see the dyno results before and after for these fixes.

First up is the fix for the 3.0D in the Q5, which is to be software only:

I’m guessing with some form of legal language this will be a mandatory software update? Sure it’s free but do you think the customer will have the right to refuse the revision?

If your state does emissions checks they could require it before registration. My guess is the voluntary compliance rate will be 20% in 2 years. If regulators decide to levy fines on VW for low compliance, they will use a carrot like “we’ll pay you $500 if you fix it” to get 80% of people in.

The emissions checks are a very good possibility, thankfully I’m in FL.

Ya, I bet dollars to donuts that Cali will do its best to not reregister those cars
