Audi s6 2008 P0741

Hey guys so recently I just got this code about the torque converter which is stuck off/ no power being transferred. I did clear and change the fluid 2 times hoping for some miracle and sadly nothing.

What are my options? Im guessing ill have to change the trans? The trans in the car is a khd and I do have spare trans which is a jms.

Does the car drive? If yes, check for torque converter slip in VCDS. Maybe only TC solenoid failed?

It does drive and what would I be looking for on the slip on vcds? Also prior to this code Its been slipping because i would feel it when i drove but whenever the trans would get warm id say around 75c it would occur and i did change fluid a couple times due to that but now It seems to be constant ever since the code has came. Since the code came i changed fluid two times and no luck.

Im just happy I fixed the s8 in time

It’s a seal that goes bad in the Tq converter. If you’re getting the code you can drive it but it’s going to get worse and eventually leave you stranded. Depending on where you live. You can get it rebuilt. They can give you a little more spice with a rebuild as well.

That makes sense it would start slipping when it got warm but when it was cool It was fine but now its definitely bad. Im in NY and im driving on belt parkway everyday in that stop and go shit. Would this cause the trans to get kinda on the hot side when im stop and go I think it went up to 120 and seemed to keep going but as long as I was giving it gas and kept moving it would stay cool. I know traffic will make it go up but im curious if tq caused any of that. I mean I did rebuild a trans once before but not no audi trans. I really dont want to play the game and fix one thing and then some other thing requires me to pull the engine again haha.

What are my options with swapping the trans. The one in the car is khd and this other one is jms. Are they compatible? Or does it need to be khd?

You car swap everything over but just remove the and replace the TCU module from the one in the car. You can’t just swap transmissions as that will cause an immobilizer fault. But if you swap out the TCU module you should be good.

Should I change the tq seal as preventive maintenance. Is it hard to do?

I think you need to take the converter down to do that. Not something you can do without a welder and some experience.

If i change it without swapping the tcu and i get the immobilizer can I just get it reprogrammed to work?
