It is too bad shipping would cost an arm and a leg to get here. Also I don’t see a price.

Whoops! Forgot the most important piece. $699

$699 is a weird price.

I agree. Very strange

I like weird prices. I used to do that all the time. $584. etc.

Yeah, me too. All my prices end in “9”.

But, B6JoeS4, I wouldnt really call that weird. It is actually the norm in the retail sector. The practice is referred to as “pyschological pricing”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_pricing

Interesting fact:

many retail stores end their products in $XXX.99 but close out items will be marked $XXX.96 or .92 or something. if you are buying an appliance or something market .92 or .96 this is basically a green light for you to negotiate a better price, and the .96 or .92 is a green light for the manager to do whatever he can to get rid of it.

Great info Saki!!! Ill add that to my bag of negotiating tricks.

Its funny, but people have no idea in how many places they can negotiate a better price. Two recent examples from my life (being the cheap SOB that I am)

Future Shop - Was buying a new laptop for my Mom, and negotiated hard with the Salesperson to eventually get $100 additional off an already discounted floor model. He tried to start his negotiations with a two year warranty (which I later found out was BS, since the Asus model I was looking at comes with a 2-year as standard), but finally got him to drop the price when I was ready to leave for Staples. Ended up getting the laptop for about $250 less than the lowest price anywhere on the web.

Home Depot - All the lawnmowers were on sale, except for the small 17" electric one that I wanted. Salesperson couldnt drop the price, so I asked for the manager. He arrived and quickly authorized $50 off a $299 lawnmower.

In most retail places, the Manager has the authorization to give a discount. Dont be afraid to ask

^^ Don’t forget price matching. If something is on sale at FS, check the price at BB and price match for another 10% of the difference off.

LOL. We are going to turn this place into redflagdeals . com

Health care too.

I am not sure about Canada but here in the USA we can haggle over the price of health care for things like doctor’s fees, medical supplies cost, testing procedures, amount of time spent waiting to be seen, etc.

HOARD ALL THE THINGS!

yeah my wife will ask for a deal on just about anything. It’s pretty funny. I run and hide.

You have to figure that lawnmower has about a 25% floor margin for them. To take off $50 means they make $25 and if the other mowers were on sale that means it was probably late August. So for them that works.

The other thing to think about is their cost of space. If they have an item that is old, and sitting in their retail space where they’re paying $15-40 a square foot per year of rent, think of how expensive it is. Want to buy a floor model sofa at a furniture store? Negotiate HARD

i.e. The furniture business has about a 200% to 250% markup vs. their cost on an item (don’t forget though that the 100% they make on their wholesale has to make up rent, wages, expenses and profit for the business…so it’s not like they’ll sell it for wholesale/cost). If that item is a sectinal couch that takes up 40 square feet of space at $20/foot per year, that means it costs them $800/year just to show it. If it’s a floor model that is being discontinued, they’re not likely to want to spend nearly $70/month to have it sit there. If it’s $2200 on sale for $1700, get aggressive and try to get it for $1300-1400.
