Audi voids powertrain warranty on APR tuned car

thank you for the warm welcome. still have the b7s4 as my daily, but i am shopping a new daily driver and agree with your statement:

i am shopping the usual suspects (rs4, b8s4 s-tronic, e92m3 dct, c63amg w/p31, 09+ cts-v 6spd) and the TD1 saga is a real buzz kill. a 12.6-12.9 daily with quattro is really appealing if the tune was plug-n-play.

oh man the epic 6k mile spark plug thread! that was a really poor choice of words on my part, my bad.

that would be awesome if you talked to jhm and Terry just to see where their heads are at. a piggyback that worked all of the time (still puzzled by the MTM s4 that walked the e92m3 on m5board) would be great.

I can’t remember his name but there was a cat on Audiworld recently who had much success with the MTM piggy. Can’t remember his name so I can’t look up the thread but it’s possible they sorted through their issues.

I suspect that I was one of the very first in the US who had purchased that. Despite it not working for me I really don’t have anything bad to say about MTM. They provided good support and once it was evident that ti wasn’t going to work properly they were quick to return my money.

well they definitely work…just maybe not with every ECU or something? And how well they work is debatable.

I mean there is no big rebellion against them in Europe. Also that video of the mtm S4 walking the M3 till about 250 kmh is also something to think about. There’s no way that was faked…it was a year before APR even had a tune, and it was on the BMW homer board. 250kmh is about 155 mph.

A stock S4 will quarter mile in around 13.0 seconds. A stock M3 will quarter mile in anywhere from 12.5-13.0. That MTM S4 had about 3 car lengths on the M3 by the quarter mile. That’s 3 tenths of a second. That doesn’t add up if the MTM was not working. It had to do something there. Watch that M3s other races. He’s not a slow M3 or something.

I try I try. I left my last dealer in December so I have not had to deal with the TD1 crap but if I had to guess the techs have no say in it and you are totally F-ed. The specified vs actual comparison was the first step (it appears) towards finding mods but Audi made it clear in the TSB I have seen posted that the scan for tunes runs in the background - like a firewall or virus scanner.

The bill is not as bad as you may think. Of course the amounts I remember were all what we billed Audi warranty for because if the customer payed the labor doubled and the parts went up. Not fair I know but that is how it was because of the rules in the dealer franchise agreements.

I think without pistons the new chain 2.0Ts paided like just over two hours plus probably $250 in parts so probably around $500 to $600. With pistons I remember billing warranty around 18 labor hours and the admin submitting requests for reimbursement of over $4K for repairs. That is a big difference right! Which is why now a dealership will replace the crankcase breather valve along with the front crank seal plus do a software change and then if there is still an issue they will replace pistons. It must save the warranty department a ton of money.

To put a few things into perspective: I had to replace a V8 S4 long block which was like $16K plus close to 30 labor hours and it was just over twenty grand.

CTSv would be cool. RS4 is a great option. Starting to see them finally perform. stock cars high 12s, tuned cars mid 12s, full bolt on cars very low 12s, supercharged cars anywhere from low-mid 11s to high 11s, trapping from 116-125.

All in allthe RS4 is looking very very interesting, especially if you’re looking to mod your car into a monster. Can’t wait to see the JHM Vortech supercharger with a strong countvohn tune, stage IV clutch and full 2.75" exhaust. That thing will be pretty serious.

i got my t-shirt !! ;D

haha thats awesome, where did you get that from

Took my car in for a rear diff leak today and SA was surprised to see the TD1 code on the elsaweb printout. Car was in only before the TSB was sent out about the TD1 for mechatronics replacement.

I’m not too concerned either way. Just thought it was rather numerous. SA doesn’t even know what it means. Nice how audi is keeping everyone in the dark about this although I really think that it’s to cover their rear of something catastrophic happens.

Interesting they had an Stasis R8 that had problems that could not be fixed or kept showing up, about 10 grand so far spent. He said that the car was loaded on a truck and sent to stasis to be fixed. I would be interested in knowing what was wrong there. He didn’t really go into detail.

So your rear diff leak is being fixed under warranty?

It will be interesting when these dealers start seeking reimbursement and are told ‘nope, TD1’. That’s when shit will hit the proverbial fan. Unless it hits the dyson fan…then nothing will really happen.

hahahaha

Should be interesting either way. ;D

I’ve been driving around with a stock ECU since the last time they were in the car since I haven’t had the time to ship the ECU back to APR. Considering the TD1 was flagged with the mechatronics replacement (and the car was there for 2 weeks at that time), I can’t see them denying the warranty on the rear diff but who knows given how this thing has been all over the place.

Im loving my b8 boner stock hehe

fixed that for ya

So yah… fixed without issue! 8)

Now time to reflash, get some MS109 and hit the track ;D

Kind of interesting.

A dealership in the Vancouver area is offering free stasis on 2012’s including for leases.

It is stasis but still. ;D

that’s fucking strange. “come on in for a free voided warranty!”

Can you imagine a client having a problem, then seeking a fix, then Audi saying ‘sorry we’re not paying’ and the dealer having to relay that info? Or seeking a fix from Stasis and Stasis saying ‘we’re struggling financially please go away’…a.k.a. ‘please prove our tune caused it’

good to hear that there’s hope for some guys (like KB)

this will be interesting…Stasis tuned car’s transmission just threw up a crazy warning.

more interesting was this post…for someone who doesn’t know what TD1 is, he sure as fuck deleted his signature (showing his mods) real quick lol

Detective saki on the case again. You should work in car insurance claims dept lol.

^^^that sounds rewarding.

To me that sounds like a mechatronics failure.

My mechatronics unit was replaced in Feb after getting the “limited functionality” thing.

Car was APR Stage 2+ and all was replaced. Car was there for 2 weeks no less.

Should be interesting though as he has a Stasis tune. Technically they should be tossed the bill (mech. replacement runs 3-4k cost wise). I wouldn’t be suprised if stasis told him to shove because he had OTHER aftermarket parts. ;D
