As for this warranty issue, it just doesn’t even seem to be much of an issue to me. None of the tuners are pushing it far enough to really be worried about a failure. I suspect a lot of the guys are getting close to the end of the warranty period anyway.
those guys are the UK version of quattrofail…they hate anything new. Simple. Your post on there was greeted with FUCK OFF NOOB. That’s a great way to welcome a new member lol. You mention the 1/4 mile as a good test to rival dyno results and guys lose their fucking mind saying how the Rs4 was designed for handling, not a drag car. ‘If you wanted a drag car, go buy a XXX’. They’re so short sighted and allergic to learning about anything. When I said the quarter mile is not what defines the RS4, it’s just a great test, they said ‘it’s too driver dependant’. when I showed them that the TTS MRC car had one great pass and one shit pass…and the MPH (what we’re really looking at) was identical on both, thus driver dependance is not as big a deal as they said, they ignored it and went to 'if the car can’t handle the power in the corners, it’ll produce a big accident. lol.
Tell them that a JHM 2.75" exhaust has produced better results than their beloved milltek, and you get fucking raped. Same on quattrofail when you question guys who claim to be smart when they buy a 2.25" capristo catback for their RS4…they lose their mind. RS cars are expensive. RS owners tend to be a bit older, and set in their ways. They also don’t like to be told they’re wrong. When they are, they go mental, even if the facts are as plain as day. It’s pretty annoying. I don’t really care though…nice to be able to post on AR where people know what works and what doesn’t and will tell you if you’re wrong, and if they’re wrong (or you are) you can just go ‘oh fuck, sorry. I got that wrong’ and everyone moves on.
Whoa shit got serious
Whaaaaaaat! Wow, that is really serious. An intake can void your warranty too?!?!
OOPS! I guess I was wrong :-X
Now wait a minute now…I had the same feeling until I saw something conflicting:
Is it just me…or does this look like something is up? VERY confusing…
I think a lot of dealers and manufacturers are tired of getting screwed into repairing other people’s messes. Over the years I have seen many people modify their motors, have a huge problem then try to cheat the Manufacturer into paying for the damage. Not defending the dealers’/Manufacturers but on the internet I see way too many posts by people gloating about how they got this and that fixed. The LS1 was very susceptible to pushrod failure and GM warrantied many cars until people started going to the track, over-reving their engines and rushing to the dealers claiming some fault. Obviously GM was listening and watching and after about a year all the posts about warranty claims getting denied started.
I was straight up with Downtown Audi about my RS4 mods and they know full well I will mod my S4. We have had a straight up verbal deal for 6 years now and I have never been denied a legit warranty claim but then again I also haven’t tried to sneak one by them as well.
I also have no illusions about the potential risk of modifying a car beyond factory stock. I think people should pull their heads out of their asses and take stock of their own risk appetite before ever turning a wrench on a car. The S4 will officially be number 7 in a list of cars I have altered ;D
I emailed the service guy that I always go with since my A4 and he came back with this:
Hey Pablo!
As service personnel, we need to ask if your ECM is tuned not to dispel a warranty, but to make sure we don’t erase whatever expensive tune you’ve got programmed in there. We don’t scan them, we’ll ask preliminarily to see what’s going on.

I think they can look the other way if you have a good relation.
Anyway I’m going to email him that TSB and ask if he had already seen it.
lol nevermind…a shifter can
I just got a call from the guy who bought my B8 from the dealership that I traded it in to. Conversation started out with “I’ve got a problem and need your help.” In my head I’m thinking fuck, this guy just got flagged as being tuned and is calling me about it. Then he says that he cracked a wheel and needs to know the manufacturer and model of it. Whoo. Awkward discussion averted. Win.
till next time muwahaha
Yeah I saved his number in my phone. He’d better use a different phone to call me or he ain’t gettin me.
Unless you’re speaking to people at Audi of America who are familiar with this, DO NOT base anything on the comments of a sales guy, service advisor etc…they’re horribly ill-informed at this early stage.
Give it 2 months and ask him that question…and you’ll get a different response altogether. Once his dealership has a reimbursement/approval refused by Audi of America, the GM will shit his pants, bring the Service Manager into his office…go over all of this (again) and that will be the end of it.
lol that would be horrendous
Imagine the liability if you don’t disclose a tune on a car you sell, and he ends up with a $17,000 engine replacement bill that Audi won’t cover?
My impression in my limited dealings with a VW/Audi dealer when we bought our GTI is that VAG corporate do not endorse any tunes in any shape or form. It is entirely dependent on the people at the dealer. The sales manager said they will honour the warranty on their end and if VW/Audi don’t foot the bill, they would suck it up. Of course this is a verbal agreement. All it would take is a change in personnel and you’re fucked. Maybe they make enough on tune sales to take care of that once in a while failure.
Of course most VW/Audi dealers around here sell APR stuff and to my knowledge APR generally don’t break cars. I see there’s some doubt as to the B8’s and Revo/GIAC’s tune (or is this just FUD marketing) as to engine safety.
Yeah I wonder how that works…
I asked him how many miles it had on it and he told me that his son only put a few thousand on it. Apparently he bought it for his college age son. Was hoping to hear that he had put a ton on so it would be out of warranty already. It had over 30K on it when I sold it over a year ago.

I don’t think they’d eat shit…I think that’s lip service.
What they mean when they say ‘if Audi doesn’t cover it, we will’…is
‘if it looks like something Audi won’t cover, we’ll lie to Audi so that they will’
Of course that’s no longer possible with the direct communication to Audi via a computer scan that the dealer can’t fuck with.
I’m not even kidding…we have to remember the dealerships are ‘stores’ with a license to sell Audi stuff…but they are firmly on their own as a business. They don’t work for Audi, and Audi doesn’t work for them. It’s like a store that sells Tommy Hilfiger jeans…at the end of the day, they will make Tommy Hilfiger eat shit before they do.
Good analogy saki. I mean it’s obvious when you think about it I don’t know why people are freaking out.
As downhill as that thread went, I still found it a little shady that AZ swept that thread under the rug. For how clueless so many 1 ringers are and the endless stupid questions that an easy search would answer it seems to me like that should be an obvious thread to sticky.
yep locking it meant it couldnt be bumped and would go away, thus protect GIAC, REVO and APR…all sponsors.
Heaven forbid the forum guys who sign in in 7 days (when that thread is on page 2) be aware of the dangers of a tune re: your warranty and this new system.
I wonder who changed the thread title? Not the OP. Seemed Anthony or some mod changed it to make the guy look like an idiot. Thus downplaying the serious nature of TD1.
I wonder if they also changed it from the original title which was ‘dealer voided my warranty because they found APR tune’…probably did.
