Auto Shows

Has anybody gone to the Auto Shows like Detriot, Washington DC, etc? I just went to the Washington DC auto show to look at the new cars and was surprised. It was a pretty sad show! Most of the OEMs were catering to the normal nonperformance market like I have never seen before.

Audi had the prime floor space right by the entrance to the lower room. But the models on display were not that interesting. They had most of the S models, newer diesel models, RS5 coupe, matte Daytona grey R8 V10, and SQ5. The matte Daytona grey exclusive paint was a six grand option for the R8 - holy shit! Unfortunately the SQ5 was all locked up because that is a cool car. It has the V6T in it with a little more power, 340hp and 350ft-lbs. There was no RS5 convertible or RS7, which sucked. Those were two of the three cars that I wanted to see but were not there.

Mercedes only had the one AMG car on display, a SLS AMG coupe with the gull wing doors.

BMW had the new M5 on display and it is jam packed it that engine compartment. Doing a tune up would be a pain and oddly enough the Audi V8TTs had more room. The BMW interiors are a little heavy on tiny buttons too.

The Cadillac CTSV is a nice car but that shifter is sloppy as hell.

The Fiat girls around the little test track stole the show. Best eye candy in the place.

Jaguar has a new FX model that was interesting. It was underpowered like all Jags but cool nonetheless.

Chevy didn’t have the 2014 Corvette on display which is a shame. That was the third car that I wanted to see in person since someone here posted a thread about it.

Lastly Ford had the best display of the Domestics. I have to say those Ecoboost engines are pretty cool. The DI injectors look just like the Audi ones. I sat in the Shelby GT 500 convertible that was buried in the back corner and that would be a fun car! The shifter feels tight but the throw is a little too long. Sixty grand for 600+ horsepower is not bad either.

Just thought I should share.

I don’t like auto shows so I don’t bother going.

I’ve actually been to the show once in DC, when I went with my gf 15 or so years ago to see her folks. It was a pretty small show, IIRC, even compared to our show here in Toronto.

I do agree with Axel, I don’t care too much for the shows, unless I need to sway a family member towards a certain car or brand. It is quite fun to bring all the keys of the marques that you have, since you get your fill of pastries and drinking espressos all day. Merc has a nice lounge always, but Audi did it really nice for a few years too, couches and TVs everywhere.

Shame about the 2014 vette…thats something i really want to see too…

The only nice thing I got from an auto show was a free box of cookies (decadent ones for the Canadians)…yup…that’s about it…

I don’t see the point in paying money and wasting my time in order to be bombarded with corporate advertising. They should be paying me to go.

Sounds like you’re referring to pre recession shows. Lately there’s nothing on offer.

Yeah, it’s been a few years. So now I’m definitely not going…!

I usually go every year (New York). The shows have fallen off, but it is still a good guys day out.

Fiat girls…

Yeah, the only constant here is the Fiat girls. Other manufacturers should take their lead, fuck they always do it right. You pretty much can’t beat a sexy italian woman.

(yes I know she’s romanian, whatever. She pretty much has it nailed)

I always raid the stands where they give away free stuff like five hour energy drinks, shammy detailing clothes, etc. Have to get something free for the time and money spent there, right? Last year there was a lot of giveaways for showing a luxury car key like what Jspazz was talking about. Plus the female eye candy was better this year than last year.

I like that idea but it will never happen. Some of us though don’t have the time to spend at a dealership to look at the cars that we want to throw away good money on. I would love that Shelby GT 500 Coupe for only $65K!
