Hey guys, me and a buddy got a 2000 b5 s4 to build from the ground up.
We got the car from Craigslist with a blow turbo and a unbeatable price.
But happiness short lived. Chassis wise the car is straight and perfect, but engine wise it’s a whole other story.
I will create a build treat later on but meanwhile we need help figuring out what are these:
They have been chopped and sealed. I’m assuming is a PCV delete it was done to this engine. But we have substantial proof this engine is not original from this car. (Yellow paint writing on block with numbers, lots and lots of bolts mismatched and cross-thread, and some stuff that makes your hair stand up, engine is rusted and beat up but has a new clutch, flywheel, coils - hmmm the stuff they don’t leave it in on the junkyard)
Is blocking of this outlets/inlets a common thing on b5’s? Is this a PCV block off done horribly? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Welcome to AR and the typical b5. When we all laugh at the typical b5 owners you see why. The best advice I can give each you is to understand that the b5 has been getting more and more of a joke and slower and slower. Only because the b5 owners are the worst thing that happened to the b5. The formula for success it rather easy but it’s costs marginly… more then the cheap China junk.
Anyways. That’s the secondary air block off. It’s not good looking but that represents how most b5 owners are. Expect to find a lot of missing or wrong things.
I wouldn’t worry about that.
I don’t know what to say about the spider hose for the PCV system but it’s wrong and a mess. Clearly not a good thing. There isn’t a PCV delete you need the PCV system if you want the car to even remotely work and keep running.
Justin is right. US tip models were equipped with the secondary air (sai) that has a combivalve at those positions either side and sai pump for startup emissions. 6mt models do not. Thats why I believe that engine has to originally be from a tip model. Is the car an automatic or manual trans?
Thank YouTube for the intro Justin. Trying to help my buddy out to get this beast going for him but man what a work this is gonna be.
We were afraid to touch all these PCV lines but I guess then we will have to bite the bullet strip everything apart and re-route everything properly.
The list goes on and on… Headlight washer piping plugged with Home Depot end pipe plug, lots of drywall screws, and the fender liners were riveted.
In all honesty though we were expecting somewhat a can of worms and we are positive still since this is all “mechanical” stuff. This can all be fixed with proper TLC and patience.
The car is a manual. Is it a problem we have an auto engine in a manual box? We bought this car without starting it since it had a blown turbo and no oil. Vcds can help this engine with a simple coding for manual box?
My knowledge is limited to my 2.0t FSI so all this on the 2.7t has been a huge learning curve for all of us.
Thanks happy.
quick question, alex got a flywheel/clutch kit for the car, but does the flywheel clutch kit is different for tip or the original engine code or it should be the same?
Nevermind my last question. I just realized tip means tiptronic and not an engine code. Going to stuff some tip to manual conversion to see what’s the process it was taken for this conversion and understand better how to address all the issues with the engine.
Thank you guys.
Going to keep this update as we go along.
