Hey guys, Count Vaughn asked me to make a thread about the fit of a B6 catback on the B7 chassis, I’d been delaying to get some good pics with the car up on a lift, but I’ll just make the post and come back to update with better pics.
To explain how this all came to be, when we did my s/c install, it became apparent I was in need of a new catback. Since we did the whole install over a weekend, and ordering a new F.I. catback takes a little while, I decided to jump on the opportunity of a “used” F.I. catback that VAST was selling off of a customers car (had been on the car for ~2weeks and then removed). It saved me about a hundred bucks or so, and most of all, was available right then. And WOW, what a difference in sound & performance a proper 2.5" catback makes.
As most of you know, the B6/B7 S4’s share a lot in common, and when it comes to exhaust, MOST of that is the same. But it does vary some from manufacture to manufacture (i.e. magnaflow vs fast intentions vs etc) so for the intent of this post, I’ll be referring to Fast Intentions B6 Catback as that’s what I have.
So the simple question, will it fit? Yes.
Does it fit perfectly? No
This is because the B7 obviously comes with dual exhaust where as the B6 is single tips. However, it really doesn’t look that bad and it really grows on you. The biggest issue to me was that the B6 tips do not sit perfectly centered in the opening of the B7 valence. The tips tend to sit slightly off-center towards the outside of the openings (i.e. towards outside of car).
However, with the bigger opening in the valence, it really shows off the polished mufflers and gives a great rear profile aggressive look because of this. This is why it grew on me so much. The look of the big B6 tips, and the polished mufflers just looks stunning. The problem was that the back of the mufflers hit the spare wheel well when you tried to push them in any farther to center them, so there was no way to fix this issue.
Well, after I decided to run over a 18-wheeler tire and have it screw up my front & rear bumpers, it was time for new toys and complete the look. Yes that’s right, DTM bumpers with dual openings for the rear valence to fit the B6 catback perfectly!

My favorite feature of the B6 F.I. exhaust, is when you make a great shift with a catless setup, you can throw out a little fireball that I’m not quite sure the B7 catback will allow.
