b6 s4 - shutting off randomly and under load

thanks!

Update:
Car runs which is good news, just need more time driving it around to make sure the issue has gone away, but so far so good!

Thanks to JHM for their super fast turn-around time!!

Necro bump. I’m having very similar issues and was wondering if you have run into any more problems with your car shutting off on you? Has it been running okay since you got the ECU back?

I’ve been trying to get a hold of JHM for the past week now and haven’t heard so much as a chirp. I have tried the other suggestions and nothing has worked so far. I just want to know whether or not I need to buy a new ECU or anything at this point, but all that has happened so far is a wasted week of riding the bus. I started emailing near the beginning of the week and need to find a solution quick as Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. I had hoped to have some form of information by now, but I’m starting to get to the point where I just need to start shouting from mountain tops to get a response.

When your car shuts off while driving that sucks, when it shuts off and you have to come to a complete stop on the road or in traffic to restart the car because it’s a tiptronic, well that is just scary and dangerous.

JHM is almost entirely in Detroit right now…might be tough to reach them.

Are they at Motor City European?

Isn’t that the new name for VAST? I thought VAST had to change names after some forum drama and scamming some people.

Yes, it is Vast’s new name, which is why I was curious.

Well I’m screwed. That would make sense why I haven’t heard anything back all week. There goes thanksgiving. :-\

You could Google Motor City European to get a phone # and call to see if they are there.

Ehh, well at this point I’ll just wait to hear back from the count. I just missed him yesterday, plus he’s most likely my best bet at figuring out what’s wrong.

JHM won’t be at Motor City European this weekend

absofuckinglutelyfuckingNOT

After the ecu came back it was fine… it was the epromm coming loose…

Its probably the same issue I had… good timing tho u can get your epromm removed and a hard flash.

Keep us posted…

I would print out the RMA form of their web site and mail in the ecu… when they get back they will do it and ship it back quick… don’t wait for them to get back it will be longer down time with shipping

That’s kind of what I was hoping you’d say. I had an interesting encounter with them during 5/11.

I’m also having this issue. My dash lights up like a B5, traction control and epc light come on first, them I get the oil pressure light (red) coupled with the weird headlight symbol (auto leveling) and finally shuts down.

Other times @ idle, the traction control light and epc light come on, then it hiccups, almost stalls but everything is works itself out.

It has also left me stranded while going to lunch on a workday.

Is this a JHM/ecu issue? Sounds similar to those mentioned above.

Note, I have also had it shut down on the highway, as recently as today, thankfully I drive a manual. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, I have a four hour drive and I’m sad to say I have more faith in my B5 right now.

that sucks. There were a few B6/7 tuned cars that had this happen. Terrible batch of the boards JHM uses for the tune from the looks of it.

Were you guys all tuned in 2011-early 2012?

Told you

Glad that’s all it was.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I got mine mid 2011. Thanks to Dru, and the Count I managed to get my ECU off on Monday and it arrived at my building a couple hours ago. Now I cross my fingers and hope this fixes everything because I have a long drive ahead of me right after. I have a lot of faith though, the guys do great work ;D Now I’m just watching the clock, but for some reason it just seems to be going slower right now…

you can see why they want this flash server thing to be up and running already lol

the chips and boards cost a surprisingly huge amount of money
the time it takes jaybquick to do the soldering etc is a nightmare
dealing with the shipping to and fro of a customer’s ECU is inconvenient for the customer and JHM (takes time and paid employees to do shipping…I think they just hired a guy who does nothing but shipping actually)
not to mention the problems with the stuff physically failing

All in all, having us drive our cars to a dealer, or downloading some software and plugging our car into our computers to flash ourselves is FAR more appetizing for JHM!

I was tuned in late 2011, such a pain in the ass and really awesome when you’re stuck in the middle of an intersection with a suit on!

At least it wasn’t your fault. I blocked the only lane in a busy as hell parking lot in my RS4 a few weeks ago (ran out of gas)

Also wearing business clothes. The guys in delivery trucks loved me.
