This topic is regarding someone selling their rs4 engine for something else. I was under the impression that the engine was worth at least a good $20k or so, however a link to an ebay ad indicated it was under $7000 for a freshly rebuilt one. Considering the stoutness of this engine, wouldn’t purchasing an inexpensive b6 s4 and doing this swap seem like a pretty good route for a high performance/reasonable cost venture?
To get anywhere near what a basic s/c’ed rs4 does vs a regular 4.2 s4, you would need a built motor and full blown supercharger setup with all the supporting mods. So this seems like an interesting alternative. I have no idea what would be involved in the swap (doesn’t the rs4 have 2 ecus or something?)
Just another stupid thread that will amount to nothing…
He says “maybe a built 2.7t and tials” that is a fucking joke. Stock B7 RS4 motor and a JHM stage 2 blower will make enough power for a daily driven low 11sec car on pump. If someone can look you in the eye and say that isn’t enough…they are a clown and have no clue about anything!
Battery wouldn’t be a big deal… the 2 ecu thing would probably be ridiculous though. Just a thought lol.
Yea the thread is ridiculous lol. Seeing how easily the rs4 runs low 11s with basic s/c setups implies it will get well into the 10s RELIABLY. Which is only accomplished on a 2.7 with tons of work and headaches and a lack of reliability.
I love the one guy who says to put a 2.7T with Tials in. Why?
The 2.7T has been rendered obselete. The fastest B5 S4s don’t even bother with it anymore, let alone should someone remove a 4.2 FSI RS motor in favour of it.
Let’s think about it.
2.7T+ 01E (nightmare trans) and a full engine build + Tial turbos. That’s about $25,000. Who…the fuck…would be dumb enough to put $25,000 into a 2.7T today unless your car comes with it. If you want a fast B5 S4? Great. Get a big build going on a 2.7T and find adequately sized turbos and a good tuner. BUt last time I checked, unless you want to flash dyno charts and logs saying how great your car is, the 2.7T is a waste of time to swap into an RS4.
An RS4 already comes with an incredible engine, and with 3 or 4 amazing forced induction options out there that, ON PUMP GAS will match or crush all but maybe one 2.7T (the JHM car with Jason manhandling the 01E) from 0-60, 0-100, 0-125 etc…why on earth would you change it? For $25,000 and a groundbreaking build that will take 2 years (and probably won’t ever get finished)…AND mating it to the horrible 01E. You will come out of it with a shitty, laggy setup that sees you slower than pretty much any supercharged JHM/TTS/AVIVA/APR RS4 other than maybe the old 1320 kits.
All around projects like this prove one thing: people’s stupidity knows no boundries
Totally agree with saki all though the Loba Motorsport B5 is setting some amazing 100-200 30-130 times etc They’ve never dyno’d just went and got a vbox and set loads of times and got on with it. Not sure it will ever 1/4 mile though but I will ask
I’m sure it is… But the point being that small v6 with huge turbos is a bad recipe for anything other than high speed pulls.
If your first and second gear are an immense disappointment, and you need to go above the speed limit to be fast, what’s the point?
We have seen a bunch of b5 s4s of late that make loads of power and are fast 60-130 moh, but when they run at the strip they go 11.7 @130 or 12.4 @ 128
When you look at their 60-130 times (or 100kmh-200kmh) in the 5-7 second range that means their 0-60 mph (0-100kmh) is around 5. 5 seconds or worse. In other words, same as a stock b5 lol.
