B8 Exhausts

This is a great point, and perhaps deserving of its own thread. Are there any B8, B8.5 exhausts out there that provide gains over stock? I ran a 13.001 with my Milltek non-res, everything else stock.

Every exhaust thread I’ve seen for our platform has focused exclusively on sound.

Edit: I’ve moved all the exhaust discussion into this thread to avoid derailing likewater’s comeback thread

^^^i started one a long while ago trying to drum up a discussion on the optimal exhaust diameter and design, hoping to get a comparison going of the exhausts that were out there at the time, and I just got accused of being a B8 hater lol

unfortunately with the b8, it sounds like complete ass when its opened up. dealing with the immense amounts of drone this engine produces as well as the extremely harsh rasp that this motor displays from 1800-2800 rpm. i think most ditched the performance aspect since people would rather buy what sounds good on there car vs something that sounds like hell but goes like stink

i have all these extra beverages that i dont know what to do with. here you go saki, these are for you

^^^it’s a problem most of the V6 cars have. They drone like fuck approaching 3000 RPM. It’s annoying because that’s where the cars tend to cruise around. E46 M3 had the same problem.

Excellent. Thank you. I will drink them and toast you and jspazz.

If I had to guess, I’d say little to no performance gains from any of the exhausts. I doubt it helped me at all, and the companies just don’t seem to be touting any noticeable gains as a selling point. Think maybe APR posted a dyno chart for their release, but we all know how useless those are.

dont forget to pour some out for the homies tho haha

im willing to bet they will never go after performance at the risk of sounding like shit. i know FI knows the deal when it comes to exhausts and the FI system for the b8 was just too much…

Welcome back like water!

Did not know FI did a B8 exhaust

fixed?

i had one. on the outside it sounded AWESOME but inside it was like waiting for the brown note to hit. i felt like i coulda shit myself at any moment lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsYHoRqe_S8

no i was on stock headers/cats and it was still far far far too much. with the headers it was just laughable it was so loud. only had the headers for about a week(the time it took to get a new exhaust haha) with the FI exhaust

i will say tho, the valved miltek prototype i have sounds KILLER with a catless car

why is it a prototype?

the exhaust hardware wise isnt really a prototype. its much like the rs4 valved system from the b7(for now) as far as the valves go. its the ecu that they are developing to work with the valved exhaust thats so special. i have an early prototype where the valves are vac operated. since running vac lines up to the front is a PIA, they are switching to electric valves which not only will cut back on instal time to no more than a standard CB, it will allow for more function from the exhaust ecu. its not just an on off switch, its a fully active dynamic valve setup

Thank you sir.

Yeah I currently run the FI exhaust with the large resonators on it and there is a TON of drone. I didn’t pay much for it, though, and still prefer it to stock. It’s awesome running wide open with the windows down and sunroof open. It does seem to provide a noticeable power increase measured by my butt dyno over stock.

At some point I’ll swap it out for something else (likely APR as I don’t think I’ll ever get headers), but I don’t feel like dropping $2500. APR and FI actually have a really similar design. The big problem with FI apparently is the 1-in-2-out rear mufflers on the FI. Move to a 1-in-1-out and split with a y-pipe for the exhaust tips and you significantly reduce drone.

^^^have you done that to yours?

i can confirm a MASSIVE difference sound wise going from 1 in 1 out vs 1 in 2 out but nothing for drone, purely an amplifier. thats how the valved setup works. i think the bigger issue with the FI is that the fast moving exhaust gases hit the furthest back wall of the mufflers thus creating a huge droney resonance in the cabin. there needs to be some exhaust packing material in the mufflers(danny hates doing that) but then that gets into the sound vs performance issue
